My 1st post [:)] (apologies if its not in the right place!) i just thought i would pop in and say hello,

Ive recently got back into Tamiya after about 12 years, it started with me spotting a Wild One in my local paper which i duly bought, cleaned up, repainted (got the oven cleaner method from these forums[:D]) and fitted new wheels all round (thanks to a couple of guys from the trade room,.sorry i cant remember your names!,).

Then last week i got myself a battered F150 Ranger off the bay! (always liked the look of them!),.. and i am going to have a go at restoring it into a very nice looking (occasional) runner [:)] I would really appreciate any advice you guys have to offer me!,.. i have sorted out a few parts i am needing already (although i am sure i will find more),.just going to nip to the For Sale/Wanted forum to make a quick post[;)]

I have enjoyed reading through the forums many a time before i registered, glad i can now participate!

Cheers

Hi Jon & welcome to TC.

If your going to run it may I sudgest a set of fine repro decals from our main man Netsmith http://www.tamiyaclub.com/parts_shop_repro.asp as genuine ones are way up there on the cost front.

You may also want to consider getting a lexan radio box for running as the origionals are usually the most valuable part of the car and pretty fragile.

Last but by no means least you may want to consider getting an electronic speed controller to run it as the standard mechanical speed controller can take quite a bit of maintenance an its not very robust especially if used.

Hope that helps, good luck!

Thanks for the advice Scorchio!,. i will definately be ordering some of the repro decals when i turn my attention to restoring the body,..ill see how the standard SC performs fisrt i think,.(if i remember it looked in pretty good shape when i dismantled the truck,.

electronic speed controls as so inexpensive, it would be silly not to use one. The older MSC is only a two step speed contol. when I made my runner rough rider the first thing I tossed was the old MSC.

one of the main shortcomings among other things and what kills bodies the most on the SRB's is that flexy chassis. To stiffen it you can either run some 90 degree aluminum angle stock down it's length or make another chassis out of some stiffer material.

None left at the minute, sorry [V]

Would need orders for at least 5 to make it economically viable

I knew Andy was out of his and finding a vintage RCH aluminum chassis like the one on my rough rider would be impossible.
