Will this shaft fit the tb evo 3? I saw the carbon prop shaft in my lhs in the sale and if it fits the evo 3 then its going in there. I just dont want to build the whole car and strip the thing down again plus it may sell tommorow so i need to get it quick. Thanks for the help.

I believe it does but I've also heard they destroy themselves very quickly.

The lightwieght shafts have "flats" on each end whereas the standard steel shaft on the TB01 has splines. I think this is the only difference in the shafts apart from the obvious material.

I think the carbon ones are VERY expensive ( £38? ) and I can't see it's that much better than the Evo 3 standard lightweight item, and probably much worse if the life span problems are true.

General consensus amongst the TBe3 guys is that the carbon shaft

isn't worth having. It is known to disintergrate/delaminate when

mod power is put through it.

The green e3 shaft also has 2 holes for the gear pin to sit in.

The standard TB lightweight shaft only has 1 hole I think.

I am not sure if they're directly interchangeable even.

The shaft is £14.99 in the sale if you wanted to know. I was going to use it for stock class racing. I thought the original kit shaft was really heavy which is why i was looking at a replacement.

Sounds very cheap compared to what I have been told. I guess nobody bought them so they have loads left over to get rid of.

They do ligtweight shafts for this car but I would say an Evo 3 should already have it. It does look quite big and heavy but it actualy lightweight.

I had that carbon shaft in my Tb-01 lancer evo VII with an 27t orion rush motor, and it's a real waste of money [:(], even with that motor it delaminates in just 2/3 runs... my LHS tried to repair it with some sort of bolt in it but it didn't work [8)] luckily they gave my money back [:)] else bye €50,- [8)]

Which TB have you got, by the way?

If its one of the rally cars, you can fit the aluminium shaft from

the "road" NSX TB01 and the plastic diff gears. Both these parts

will save you 130g which is a lot for a little car!!

The ally shaft is not much heavier than the carbon shaft.

All the bits are available & not expensive, try

53401 (OP401) TB-01 Lightweight Ring Gear

I have just ordered these parts from Rainbow ten and they are $4 for the Lightwieght ring gear and about $5 for the propeler shaft. But the shaft is out of production now so I guess stocks could be getting low.

I have a suspicious feeling that the new TBe3 shaft can also

be used for this purpose... as Tamiya has poked 2 crosspin

holes in that one instead of just 1 for the TBe3 and there

is no way the TBe3 can make use of the front hole.

50993 TB EVO 3 Propeller Shaft (this shaft is 'pandan green'!!)

However if you buy TBe3's shaft as a sparepart you do not get

the 2pcs of little pinion bevel gears. I believe you can buy

these bits alone as TBeI spareparts.

Which shaft?

The TBe3 shaft looks exactly the same as the silver TB01 hopup aluminium shaft, except the e3 shaft is green and got the 2 holes for spurgear to sit on.

The ends of the shafts are D-shaped, not splined like the steel shaft provided in the rally TB01 kits.

Did not occur to me to measure the 2 aluminium shafts to see if they're exactly the same length & compatible hole position, but they look as if they are. Sorry, green shaft is now in-situ.

Thanks WillChang I've ordered de 50886 shaft and when this one can't be ordered I'll order the Evo3 shaft thanks for your help [;)]

CORRECTION - CORRECTION - CORRECTION! [:I]

Had opportunity to pull out the e3 shaft again (to change spurgear)

so thought I'd take the chance to compare the two rods side-by-side.

Verdict:- The e3 shaft CANNOT fit in the TB01.

1) the shaft is a little longer... say about 5mm (didn't measure)

2) the notch at the ends is deeper on the TB01 shaft, so that

it sits inside a 1150 bearing at either end. On the e3 the shaft

sits on the bevel pinion gear, which is supported with a 1280.

If you have a lathe you could probably cut the e3 shaft, file a

new flat and trim down the 'notch' to suit... but then it might

just be just as easy to make a new shaft from scratch.
