Plaza Japan - what it's really all about

Recommended Posts

Dang, I only got a horse.. or maybe it's a donkey.. not sure.  haha.

I was going to give it to my son when he cooks our Christmas dinner...  he's always saying puns (dad jokes) so I was going to say 'uma!' and hand him the horse.

When things taste good, we say ' ohhhh uma!'. or 'ohhhh umai!'   In Japanese horse is 'uma'.. so there's the horse pun.

If you want to go even further, after supper my wife says 'uma katta, ushi maketa'

'uma katta' means it was delicious.. but with a pun it can also mean 'horse won'

And 'ushi maketa' means 'cow lost'

Not sure why a cow, but I am assuming where there is a horse, there is a cow?

Enough Japanese lessons for today..  hai

PS: The CD you want to buy right now in the USA is Certificate of Deposit..   5%+  everywhere for 7-11 months.  easy cash for future RC.. well, if you have cash laying around..

Did others get a Christmas card too? I got mine at the beginning of December. I hope it's not linked to my annual spend.

Pretty cool Japanese style card with pre-printed message inside. Can't see where I've left it now.

This had been reported many times. It is hard to say. Irregular delivery, supply chain issues on Tamiya side, etc...

If Tamiya disappear from their search filter, then be worried. It had happened to a few other Japanese stores before when they suddenly got "blacklisted" by Tamiya for whatever reason.

I check PJ every day... but every time I check, I see more sold out items.. rather than stocks getting replenished... :( are they not getting stocks no more?  :( ?

Well I just received a bunch of Tamiya spare parts so it seems all is good

I saw that they had some Kyosho stuff at a great price so I placed another order as well..  I don't expect to receive my order until mid-FEB probably even though via FedEx.

They're so slow..

Think I had one of those.

I give them to my wife who rewards the SEN children in her class for good work, they seem to really like them.

That reminds me of this mouth-watering fish picture on the shopfront of restaurant in Singapore:

The fish seems to be asking: "Hey! Who puts sauce on people? Honestly?!"

Wow I am pretty impressed with PJ, packaged arrived within a week of order to US. Ordered a kit and a bunch of hop up / parts. Beats ordering from Towerhobbies.  Mine came with a blue sachet.

My first order from PJ has arrived. It took some time, but was well worth it as I saved quite some cash. So, all in all a good experience!

This might have been discussed before: do PJ sell any Tamiya parts with 7 or 8 digit part numbers, or are they really restricted to common 5 digit part numbers?

They don't sell the 7 or 8 digit spare parts.  Just the 5 digit Hop-Up style items.

First time customer of PJ... hopefully all will be well and my order will come sooner rather than later... Shipping was even cheaper compared to some US online retailers

That's what I thought but thanks for confirming. I have been using them almost exclusively in the past 2 years or so. It's impossible now to drop 12$ on an eBay item that's 2$ on PJ!

They also don’t seem to sell kits.. just parts.  They also take their sweet time listing new parts..  RC is not their main focus. I am glad they are around, their prices are great.. reminds me of the old days with BanzaiHobby.

They do sell kits, some of them are still on stock (a few XV-01 versions, Bruiser, F-350 High-lift, CR-01 Unimog, MF-01X G320, GF-01 LC40, Dancing Riders and probably a few more).

If you look closely at that list, they’re all a few years old. They don’t have anything current

Yes, they sell old kits and only support the ones that are at least a few years old. They still don't have the XV-02 oil filled gear diff for instance. I wonder what their business model is, I am guessing they buy older stock from other shops perhaps in Japan, and sell overseas to people who find the prices astounding and gladly pay 25$ for shipping each order?

It's still a lot nicer that the RC Mart gimmick with the secret percentage added to your shipping and the "low" prices to lure you into adding-to-cart.

Getting people's money is an art.
