I was actually questioning if we should at all make it like we have it now... I get it now though, I'll be a good boy and not complain. [:P] Other lists? How many would you like to have? [:I]

If you mean by chassis only the main tub, I feel it runs into some complications though, for example: Would a Vanquish have the same chassis tub as the Egress - not quite - but chassis design is very alike! And the Falcon and Bear Hawk have the same tub, but they are such entirely different cars! [:0]

Also the TA-03 RS and FS should be together then, as they have the same chassis tub (not the F and R though as these don't have the same tub) Comes down a bit like the FF-01/TA-02 thing mentioned earlier. [|)]

BTW, if your looking for help, I wouldn't mind lending a hand. [:)]

Thanks for the offer of help Sjoerd. If you, or anyone else can run through the list as it stands and point out corrections that need to be made that would be great. But it based on main chassis piece nothing else, not other parts, not other groupings.

EG For this list based on chassis piece/tub/type

Vanquish and Egress would no be in the same group as they are different. You cannot build and egress starting with a Vanquish chassis piece. They share parts but this is not a 'parts compatibility' list.

Falcon and bearhawk would be grouped together as you could build either starting with the same piece.

I don't see a problem there - thats exactly what this list is intended to show..

Like I said I think a halfway house might be to come up with our own naming scheme so,

Avante is AV01

Egress is AV02

Vanquish is AV03

this was a relationship is implied but you can see the distinct chassis designs. My only worry with that approach is it won't mean much to anyone that doesn't know the naming convention.

As for TA02/FF01 type issues, to be correct to my definition of what this list is, these would have to grouped (although if tamiya have labelled them differently I don't really mind if we keep them seperate)

id="quote">id="quote"> Not quite true Chris, you can indeed build an Egress with a vanquish chassis tub, all the suspension and gearbox parts fit right on....however that would be a hopped-down version!

The manta ray chassis tub is also not identical to a TA01, it has different structural webbing moulded in.

Anyway, only kiddin' - the list is fine, as Twinset says, already useful for same reason, I struggled to find manuals for specific chassis when I didn't know what cars were sold with it.

If you're not going to put the Egress and Vanquish together you will put these 4 cars all in their same group. That should also mean you wouldn't put a Top Force with the Manta Ray, or not even with the Top Force Evo - just to give a better known example. [:0]

I'm affraid that at some point, you would make that many groups, that there is just 3 times more cars then that there are groups... That'd be quite... erm... odd really, and hard to overlook. If there woudl be many cars 'unique' (only one in their group), that would miss the point really, or wouldn't it? [?]

Maybe we should ask ourselves: What are we going to use this list for, or: For what purpuse will people want to use it most? If for parts compatibility chekcing (also for hop-ups on basic cars, that are included in upgraded/TRF kits), or just finding out which cars are related to each other: Taking just the chasiss tub as a criteria would not work well IHMO - there's more parts to a car to interchange than just that. Or is that just me? [:)]

OK one more time, seeing as its been nearly 12 hrs since I last typed it.

This first list is unique chassis piece design. Yes the mantaray and top force share most parts but not original out of box chassis piece. Therefore in this list they will be seperate. Yes this will lead to a bigger list (although a approx 1/3 as long as the cars list)

They will be grouped in following lists later, which group based on parts compatibility and families.

Who will use this list? People that want to know about unique chassis pieces. Those that want to know about families will have to wait a little longer - this is not the list for them although Its a good starting point for lots of cars until other lists appear.

There is nothing not to work. This list will do exactly what it is meant to do and show unique chassis piece design usage.

Other lists will show other things.

58044: Mitsubishi Pajero

"luchbox / pumpkin" not a exact match ofcourse , but i would say, same group.

Thanks Chris! This is a very helpful addition to the site, especially with the link in each car's description for other cars sharing the same chassis.

It really amazes me to see the variety of cars that Tamiya made which shared the TBA chassis. [:D][;)]

Road wizared is an entirely diferent car. I could name differnces as the abality to use MSC, ball diff, and lots more, but most importantly the main chassis piece is not the same. [:P]

Maybe the name would be too inspecific, but actaully that's quite correct. Also the 58006 936 belongs to this group and not the 934/935 it's with now - it has the very same chassis as these 3 and shares few parts excluding main chassis with the 934/935. [:)]

Not quite really, I wouldn't put those together just like that. The same nuance difference as a Grasshopper and a Grasshopper 2.

Correct, both share the Bearhawk chassis. Still I think the Falcon doesn't belong in this group though, it's such a different car! But I guess that's just me. [;)]

Nope, not F102. This cars shares chassis with the 58069 Lotus Honda, nothing else. This chassis came after the Road Wizard, and before the F101.

Hope this helps. [:)]

Mistakes I spotted straight away from first glance ;-

Vanquish should be with the Avante's and Egress.

TR-15T, solar, RC Boys, TGR, TG10R, TG10-2 and some others all have nothing under them and its obvious what should be there.

wheres the re-released XR311 ?

Kure Nismo is not an FF01

Only 3 models under TGX and one of them is a TG10, whats that about?

not much under TBA, where are the missing models?

Stadium Thunder is same Blitzer Beetle and Stadium Thunder, Bearhawk and Falcon.

Dyna Blaster is on the Dyna Storm Chassis, shares nothing plastic with a Blitzer Beetle type car.

Jimbo makes a good point. The FF chassis sharing the same tub as this and that having a base chassis at something else etc... got me thinking. My conclusion was to set it up as something like a family tree or the folder structure on any windows PC like you would see in explorer. This way you could clsssify chassis under the same root but give them their own sub tree to indicate the main chassis is the same but its under its own category. I could build this on a quick and dirty app in VB but I am so busy with work I would never finish it. So to illustrate my point I drew this up real quick. Now this illustration is not meant to be accurate, it was just to give an idea of what I was thinking. Of course you could organize the structure based on what ever criteria you think is most significant (chassis is in my opinion the best place to start as Netsmith said) or how ever you feel is easiest to break down. I see this way working well, because when all is collapsed you dont have just a list of chassis that one could easially get lost in, and as new chassis's are introduced all you would have to do is add the new folder and build below it as new models come out built on that chassis. For any of the 1 hit wonders, they get their folder off the root, but at least you could see visually how they relate to one another if and how they do.

But thats just my opinion, I could be wrong....

I think I still have my list of cars and classifications for them... I think it had the first 125 or so cars in it. The cars are sorted in catagories, that can be sorted per era, or per F1 / Touring / Buggy etc. I rememebr it was very handy and offered good overview.

If anyone is interrested in this as a base to create another list, or to use it as a whole, I can send it to you. (If I find it...) [:)]
