i am using a spektrum g2 lipo 2s as my battery and the battery hold down is not even close to being able to close down. it is too tall. it fits in the tray, but doesnt fit snug enough without some kind of hold down.

it is at least an inch to short.

is there an aftermarket hold down? or do people just cut holes in the battery area for straps?

Undo the rear mounts and flip the battery strap over.

its better, but still doesnt go down far enough for the strap to close. its off by about half inch. if the clip thing was longer, it would work

maybe these batteries are too tall?

Replace the screws holding the clip thing and the battery hold-down with longer ones, and add spacers to raise the pieces relative to the chassis?

Or get shorter batteries. 😁

Your going to have to do some work on it. I just popped off the shell on my sand viper to take a look as this is the first thing I did. I wasn't going to buy a ni-cad.

1. Put the battery strap back the way it was.

2. In the battery tray towards the front you will need to remove/cut the tabs so that the battery can sit flush

3. you will need to use some shock spacers to raise the rear hinge  there should be some in your kit. use whatever works

4. In your picture do you see the plastic that is touching your battery power wire?. The battery strap has  a hump right at the end.  trim that off so its flush with the rest of the battery strap. you are only trimming the part that is touching the wires. I would do both sides so that it looks factory.

The tabs at the bottom of the battery tray can be removed with pliers.  you can lay a piece of foam down so it doesn't look ugly.

the tabs on the actual battery strap I sliced them right off with my kershaw pocket knife

i ordered a dremel so i can have clean cuts. i have a velcro strap, i might see if there is an easy way to use that.

im thinking 2 slits in the top and feed over top and back across

turns out this is all i needed to do. once i cut those out, the battery cover fits. its a bit tight, but is good. I used the wrong bit on the dremel, so it looks really bad, but it fits now.

now i just need to wait for the paint that has been late in the mail, and i will be done.

thank you for the help on this

So you don't go beating yourself up over adjusting the rear suspension I suggest ordering the dt02 spring kit and using the red springs in the rear.  leave the front springs stock.  use the one hole pistons in the instructions instead of the two.

use the thinnest spacer (its like wafer thin) in the front and none in the rear (none if you have the red springs).  it will sit nice and low and when you lift it up the arms will droop down and will absorb the jump.  in the front move the lower shock point inwards.

Note.  the rear red springs are softer however they are taller.  they work WAY better than the stock rear springs.

I would fabricate a compartment lid out of aluminum or brass.  It will give you the most flexibility as the lid is completely removable as you already know.

On my car it has a driver so not much of a reference..
