Hi guys;

so I am trying to find a spray paint alternative that I cannot get where I live.

was wondering, can lexan be painted with posca pens? sharpies? etc? (oil; or water based)

thanks!

I think you might end up with see-through brush lines from the marker tips.. I usually have to paint a certain thickness to achieve solid color.

I use a Sharpie for the panel lines on the outside.. but takes several passes to make a solid line.

I painted a lexan driver figure with Posca pens, it needed more than one coat and is vulnerable if rubbed, ever with a finger as it comes off, however once sealed with lacquer (Halfords UK) it was ok. Not sure how even the coverage would be if you did a whole car body.

I have to pay a premium for Tamiya paint as Im offshore and normal mail wont deliver, so I have to pay for a different service, but its worth it for paint that works

Posca is not permanent, even their own instructions states a fixing varnish is required.

Where are you? UK I assume since you talked about Halfords. Like you, I am in the islands and getting some stuff is really difficult. Gundam markers are the best paint markers but Amazon will not send to my location. AliExpress will though. Hint: if you need spray paint, try TTM, they can get it to you. eBay sellers can get jars of Tamiya and other paints to you if you brush or airbrush.

Im on the Isle of Wight UK, Royal Mail wont deliver any form of aerosol here, but other carriers will, but are quite expensive, so I generally place an order that includes other items to make it a bit more cost effective.

That is surprising for you down in sunny IOW. I thought only us in the deepest darkest Scottish isles get this treatment. RM don't fly mail to you by any chance? Our mail got scanned at Inverness and anything they do not like got sent to be destroyed in NI.

As an ex employee from a long time ago, yeah, aerosol is indeed a hazard to them, compressed gas is essentially why i think though after 20 years my memory isn't brilliant. Illegal to send live bees to Iceland with their services too so that gives you an idea of how arbitrary things can be.

I'm sure Time Tunnel Models would be quite happy to help, He's a good dude! And uses courier for paint

As an ex employee, you will (may?) remember that spray paints were allowed at one time, up to around 2015 when I was still living in Shetland. Back then, my spray paint will come via RM with a "Not by air" or "Do not fly" sticker, quite obvious it is spray paint inside with the noise you know what I mean? Now, at that time, an employee told me, they still threw it on the plane anyway as the Saab fly too low to make a difference. Off topic a bit, I had heard of tins of house paint "exploding" on the Islander (tradesmen going to the isles), due to rough landing not anything else, and the result was not pretty.

I actually spoke to Neil few weeks ago and he said that the courier he use did not specifically disallow paint, but paint will not be covered by the insurance. Now if only that can also apply to lipos...

They didn’t scan the mail back then so a lot got through that shouldn’t. I have to admit that I don’t actually remember those stickers but do vaguely remember a few rattle cans getting sorted. My memory isn’t always clever though.

I’d chance lipos are the same as paint with some, ie Hermes, isn’t that who CNHL use? And Parcel Force was who HobbyKing used when they had a UK warehouse. I was gobsmacked when my lipos turned up with the postie when I ordered from them.
