gearbox 'c' clips- for Boomerang/hotshot/supersabre gearbox

Recommended Posts

Hi all, in my quest to refurb a well used boomerang i purchased from ebay- i pinging 2 of the gearbox 'c'clips into the universe never to be seen again. so i purchased a re-re parts bag with the larger 'C' clips but they do not fit (?) the gearbox housing will not close properly with them installed so my question is does anyone know where i can pick up some old school original 'c' clips as pictured below?? (ive searched the forum and the ol'google but not coming up with anything)

thanks guys

Are you using the original E11 plastic part and thrust washer?  If so, can you switch to the re-re setup of an 1150 plastic or ball bearing instead?  Although I think they should be the same thickness as it's a common swap.  Might be worth a try as I suspect it's going to be easier than trying to find two of those C clips!

It might also be worth trying the re-re gearbox joints too which I assume you've got those in the parts bag A that you bought.  They look a little different in the manuals and may be a different length.

I think the problem is that the gear casings are slightly different thicknesses, and if you want to use re-re parts you need a new gearbox casing. The original E11 and steel washer are the same same thickness as an 1150 bearing, and I don't believe the drive cups have changed either. I sure I have read in previous discussions that the gearbox housings are slightly different.

Re the clips, your best bet might be to put a wanted ad in the sales / wanted sub forum and hope that someone out there has some spares they'd be willing to part with.

The drive cups look different in the manuals to me.  There's a small step in the newer ones.

@tickz - which re-re parts, if any, are you using?  If you've bought new gearbox casings and are trying to use the original drive cups (which look like they may be a little longer, or the newer cases are thinner) then that may be the issue?

Funny to stumble across this. I was recently reworking my vintage boomerang front gear box because something wasn’t right up there. I was able to spice those c clips from another tamiya model. Let me see if I can look back through my purchased listings. I never did get my gearbox sorted.

C-rings aren’t strictly necessary. :)

BiTD used to get twistties/breadbag ties, strip off their pvc/paper coating and use the wire within. Just a turn or 2 around the out drive groove; long as outdrive can’t fall out thru the 1150 that’s all you need.
