As i remember my best mate had an Wild Willy in the 80's, and it was so fun, i was searching the net, and saw the Wild Willy 2.

Now i want one to bring back the memories!

Can you suggest a webshop in EU who has the best price for it?

And how do you know if the ESC is included in the kit? Some say it is, and some say it isnt?

Can't help with where to buy (I'm in Canada... though I've had great luck with Tamico.de ), but if you check the part number it should be 58242.  If it is listed as 58242-60A, then it will be the variant without an ESC (at least here in North America).  Often the reseller will list if it includes the ESC as well.

Thanks! So the 58242 is whats to look for then!

And thanks for the Tamico.de tip!

Is this kit from Tamico with the ESC then?:

Tamiya Wild Willy 2 (WR-02) Kit #58242 (tamico.de)

Newer production often have a sticker on the box in North America.

I don't know if it is the same case in Europe.  Also, old stocks of Wild Willy 2 may not have ESCs anyway (mine from 20 years ago, certainly did not have it, but newer productions had it).

Tamiya (or the importers, used to put a sticker on the front with esc included! But I've noticed in the UK that that's isn't the case anymore? The topforce evo was my last tamiya to have the esc included sticker!........don't tamiya boxes just look the absolute business!!!!

So it's a bit of hit or miss then if the ESC is included?

How many bearings at what size are they in Wild Willy 2?

I understand the kit only includes plastic bushings or?

Not sure again (I'm full of not sures at the moment!....sorry mate!) I think the gearbox comes pre-assembled with motor attached so you will have to dis-assemble to put bearings in it! A lot of hobby shops do packs of bearings for whatever car you want the bearings for (probably the standard twelve 1150's and two 850's) :D

I thought I had built mine, but reading the manual, the gearbox is indeed supplied re-built.

Mate I was exactly the same and I think when the wild willy 2 first came out you did have to build the gearbox but that changed when the mechanical speed controller got replaced with a esc as standard and the chassis started to appear with different bodies (VW camper wheelie, Honda city turbo, Toyota pick up wheelie etc) :D

I sent a mail to tamico.de and asked about the ESC, and they replied with this:

"Hello,
and many thanks for your inquiry.
Yes, there is an electronic speed controller included with the kit.
Viele Grüße / Best Regards"

Great!!

One Wild Willy 2 ordered, and 16 ballbearings :)

Congrats,  @Dan1891. Be sure to get enamel paints too if you haven't already to paint the lights, Willy, arch, etc.  GL!

The chassis does not require any glue, but the body and driver I use Tamiya plastic cement.

Thnks! ****, i need to get some Tamiya plastic cement then! Or is there some equal products?

Will regular superglue do?

Superglue will work, but it might be a little tricky getting Willy's arms to reach correctly (steering wheel & shift lever) as you would need to aim perfectly in one try.   I am sure Revell plastic model glue (or equivalent) will work just fine as well.

I think the gearbox requires 8 and wheels require 8. Total of 16. All "1150" bearings. (you can search "5x11x4mm bearings.")

Rubber shielded bearings offer the most protection against dirt.

The included ESC in my kit from tamico.de was Tamiya TBLE-04S.

Just for information, i don't know anything of different ESC's really :)

That's the newest ESC from Tamiya.

I like how Tamiya insist on dual ESC that can handle both brushed and brushless motors.

The issue with older Tamiya ESCs were cutoff voltage.  They cut off too low, meaning they could damage LiPo batteries. (They don't like to go below 3v per cell).  But this new ESC cuts off at 6.3v at "high" cutoff.  If two cells are well balanced, they'll cut off at 3.15v each.  (If not well balanced? Bad things could happen.)  If you use a LiPo, a separate battery alarm could be a good thing to have.

But I never liked to use LiPo, or any fast motor on WW2. It's top-heavy, so it could backflip. (Mine still has the silver stock motor.)

I will use a 7.2V NiMh pack, and the stock motor included in the kit, so i think i will be good then!

Your setup will be plenty good.  I too just run NiMH and silver can on my WW2.  This car to me is not about speed, rather just fun fun fun.  :D

GL on your build and enjoy!
