Wild Willy 2

Recommended Posts

Now i have checked several times and i think the uprights is at least nearly parallel. I guess it isnt dead critical on a model like this?

Thnks! yes, the servo is centered as good i could do it :)

Is it hard to pop off the cup joints?

Not difficult if you use a pair of curved tip flat jaw pliers.  If you use regular jaw you can end up chewing up the joint which for some folks look unattractive.

Edit:  Official name might be bent tipped flat jaw pliers.

Sorry to bother you with more newbie questions, but should the rear wheels has a bit of play, say 1 or 2 mm, in the direction on my pic when attached to the rear drivetrain?

Yes @Dan1891, I’d say that’s normal. Tamiya offer a shim set that can eliminate it - 53587 5mm Shim Set (3 Types/ 10 Pcs. Each).

Thanks! Then i know :) And great info about the shim set!

So if you want to minimize the play, you place some shims at the red arrows? Or do i think it wrong?

I usually place the shim outside between the bearing and the axle hex pins.

Ahh, smarter! Then you dont need to take things apart! :)

More noob questions :)

The servo saver seems to have a large amount of play up and down, red in my pic.

It isn't tight at all. Is that as it should be?

I wasnt really happy with the sloppy play of the servo saver, the steering was all over the place.

So i found a video saying to sand of a tiny bit of the red circle in the pic.

And wow! Now there is no play at all in the servo saver, and it seems to work still, i put some force on it, and the plastic spring B6 still moves :)

Slow progress here, but today i ran my Wild Willy 2 for the first time!

Only indoors in my flat, but wow it was fun!!! It wheelies almost too much :) But i was fun, so fun!

I just hooked up the electronics very temporarily. :)

The Tamiya ESC whines a bit at low speed, i assume thats normal, or?

And the 3 euro Chinese futaba clone steering servo seems perfectly ok for this car. Nice rapid steering!

Slow progress here :)

Now it's time to start with the body, how bad do you think the Wild Willy will look with an unpainted body?

I was thinking letting it be in its original green plastic color, so i dont have to painting it.

I’ve seen plenty unpainted and they still look OK but it will look better painted. I’ve not yet finished mine but it’s a great body in that you can keep adding detail as much as you like.

I haven't bothered to paint one of my WW2 bodies done in box art.  It looks fine imho.. I would still paint the spare tire and NOS  bottle, and fire extinguisher .. and obviously Willy himself.  :D   I painted the jerry can red, but I think the box art was olive green (molded plastic color).

(I posted this picture earlier..)
