Kpowell911 1899 Posted March 13, 2023 Ives ordered a new Chassis, New Servo and also a new “B” pack, all in stock from Modelsport for £35 ish. Cant moan. Great that 20+ year stuff is still in stock. Guess thats a perk of Tamiya. I built up the TRF Shocks, In the box I built up the shock shafts first as I expected to end up losing e clips if I left it any longer. What a joy to build! Complete overkill I know but hey. Gonna wait and mount them to the new chassis.
Kpowell911 1899 Posted March 13, 2023 As for the Mercedes, this TL-01 was released on 17th Nov 2000. Nearly 23 years ago……. This car is completely stock. Today I charged a NIMH up, put some AAs in the old school AcomsTechniplus. Had to re set the Servo Horn for the throttle servo. And…… https://i.imgur.com/YwdE2sD.mp4 Im going to run it bone stock when the weather improves, clean it up and shelf it
Kpowell911 1899 Posted March 19, 2023 I decided on a new Servo, only a cheap Etronic Metal Gear servo. I also picked up a new chassis as Id cracked a shock tower. I also picked up a set of B parts, as I had a sneaky feeling that the servo horn included wouldnt be a 25t and Id be stuck. I started a strip down. I also noticed a crack on this part, but luckily I had spares with the B parts. New chassis, with the revised cut out. I DID need the new 25t horn so the B parts were worth buying. Started building the new end up Nearly back together. As you can see I also fitted the new TRF shocks. Not really much else to do to this now, but I think youll agree it looks very nice for a 24 year old model. Im going to run it as I want to see the performance with an ESC, Lipo, Speed Tuned gears and the Super Stock motor. I have a 13mph bench mark as above from bone stock. I may put the stock front bumper on, and I need some new body posts as I think the shell sits too low and they’ve been cut.
Kpowell911 1899 Posted March 26, 2023 Ive completed TL-01s now. Finally got my hands on a Focus. Well two: I bought a “beater” off ebay with a missing wing: Then a minter I found on FB. Just need to find a box. Same seller had a TA-01 Michelin Pilot Escort Cosworth. Seemed Rude to leave it alone. Shell needs work, but MAY be savable? Both work I just need to try and obtain some boxes?

Make the TL01 chassis underneath worthy of being a grail…. Have a look at my ff02 build for ideas. https://www.tamiyaclub.com/forum/index.php?/topic/87429-juls’s-ff02-“full-bling”-build/

I would be a bit cautious about using the BZ on that chassis, especially with the larger diameter rally block tires, as it simply cannot be geared low enough for that motor. It will probably still be fast but the motor temp might be an issue. The motor probably wants an FDR around 10-11 for rallying. I don't think the TL-01 can go much higher than 8? Ive used it once, cleaned it and thats it. This will never be ran again. Thanks for the advice however.

Obviously tamiya dampers, lightweight driveshaft, speed tuned gears and lightweight shafts, TA03 ball diffs, quick release battery holder, m03 alloy servo horn for high torque servo saver. There is actually quite a lot of nice parts for TL01, many are from or shared with other chassis like M03. Don’t forget many modern g601/gf01/wr02 parts among others also may fit even though they didn’t exist when tl01 was around, but are still genuine tamiya hopup parts that just bolt up. Kpowell911 1899 Posted March 31, 2023 So the second TL-01 Focus turned up. Its not as bad as I was expecting so Ill tidy it up and re list it. The good news is, Ive obtained a rear wing, and Ive trimmed the front bumper back to its correctly so it looks a lot neater. I cant do much about the faded/yellowy wheels or mirrors but hey. Underneath, its fine. It all works, with period correct radio gear and MSC (which did get stuck on my bench 😅). Yellowing wheels on the one side. Tyres are shot Shell will look presentable with the wing. Yellow mirror Bumper before: After The squad

Kpowell911 1899 Posted May 17, 2023 I stole the TRF Shocks off the Subaru for my SRX, and left it on friction dampers. Had some spare time this evening so I built up and fitted the SRX Oil Dampers, with longer eyelets to keep some rally heritage. Not bling bling but hey perfectly fine!
