CC-02 wheel scraping shock

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone!

So I'm quite new to RC, recently built a Tamiya CC-02 Bronco, but I'm having an issue. Basically, when I pull off the rear left spring compresses so much that the front right wheel lifts. I've tried swapping the shocks around, to no avail. I also reassembled the rear diff and locked it. When I turn right, the rear left tire scrapes on the spring, do you guys have any idea on how I can fix it or sort it? Thanks :)

This is typical of cars with solid axles. Torque twist.

I don't have a CC-02 but you can reduce it by running heavier damper oil or a stiffer spring (I'd check you have the suspension assembled correctly as well).

Having said that something like a CC-02 is more of a "scale" driving experience anyway and doesn't need to behave perfectly on a fast launch, it's at its best slowly navigatiing trails and small rocks.

I added 12mm extensions a while back but noticed the same thing when I turn the front wheels.  I switched to 17mm and it got better but still rubs slightly at full compression and full steering throw.

Thanks for the advice! Yeah I'm running red oil so it's soft soft, I actually turned the rear shocks upside down and its a bit harder now.

Suspension is 100%, double checked everything, even re did the oil and swapped them around!

I must admit, hearing that someone had the same issue as me does make me feel better - was worried I assembled something wrong

Usually when I hear stuff coming from a vehicle that's not suppose to be there I just turn the stereo up.  :D

Per the other posts, this may be normal on this kit.   You can possibly try to shim the rear wheels outward a bit also long as you still have some threads on the axle for the lock nut and the drive pin still is doing its job.

Wider wheel hexes will help move the wheels out and away from the dampers.  I believe the CC-02 comes with 5mm hexes. A 6 or 7mm hex should do the job without being too wide to get a wheel nut on.

To add to this, and my earlier post, I'm running Pitbull 1.9 XORs which are much wider than the kit tires.

Your rubbing issues could also be resolved by using wheels with greater offset. HPI make a variety of realistic wheels that would do the trick, in 3mm, 6mm and 9mm offsets. I use 9mm offset wheels with standard width hexes on mine and nothing rubs even with chonky aftermarket tyres.
