Early Tamiya Touring Cars TA01 - TA03

Interesting 🤔

The TA02 RS kit I built had the duller finished rear universal shaft, not as dull as the Skyline shafts but not shiney like the TL01 jobbies!

Well it was the ‘final dance’ for the TA02 chassis of the time so maybe there was a cross over point between the different sets 🤔

I have all 3 versions super dull, standard dull and shiney - all identical other than the finish.

Holy cow. I remember there being a set of those still for sale when I first started working in the model shop. No interest because they were marked at UK RRP and we only had one pair from memory (I think they were sold in pairs?)

Then one day a guy came in and just bought them at that mad price and was keen to know if we had any more. Now I know more I wish I'd got them for myself and put them away for safekeeping!

Noticed these and thought of you

I am sorely tempted! But I don't really have a suitable car nor display for them. And they deserve to be on display after all B)

If it were the BBS style mesh ones I would be £90 down right now

Those are mine that I am selling 😜

I have managed to find a brand new set so letting these ones go.

I’d take £80 + Postage for them for a fellow TC member 👍🏻

You should be able to clean off the residual superglue with acetone, since superglue is soluble in acetone, so you may not need to replace those parts (if that's all that's wrong with them).

This worked an absolute treat so thanks for the heads up - had to go to the pharmacy counter at Boots to get some pure acetone

First just put some on a lint free cloth and tried to rub it off but didnt really work then remembered watching my wife removing nail polish and used the same method - soaked a small piece of cloth in acetone, put it over the effected area, wrapped it in tin foil, left it for a few mins, removed and wiped with a clean cloth and hey presto - superglue gone and FRP undamaged :-)

First off was a coat of PS21 Gold then the outer rim done in chrome, then some flat black, a cocktail stick and a steady hand.

Very happy with the result and really lifts these 2 piece wheels

Been a little quiet on here for a good few weeks but been building stuff in the background.

Currently working on a fully hopped up TA02 chassis - all Tamiya hop ups apart from the Aftermarket Carbon Chassis set.

Also waiting on the delivery of 5 'parts cars' on the way from Japan that have lots and lots of lovely Tamiya and period aftermarket hop-ups from the likes of Kose etc - cant wait!!!!!

Also completed this project which started with assembling the most hop-ups I could find for the TA03R S chassis. 6E8E2FF0-62E3-4D08-BEA4-48176FE3F204.thumb.jpeg.47eea549be178e10c3b42fbbfb2fe337.jpegBF54AFCF-5D52-4E33-A56A-7CC811D80745.thumb.jpeg.54a0cf4640d7a170944d14b2e24f5155.jpeg

It was a new kit that I had previously built then took it apart to rebuild it with the extra added goodies - plus they are a lovely kit to build.

They are the original kit parts and the extra bits all lined up 😁

I just wanted to add the extra bits that weren’t in the kit plus change some parts out for the gold parts to make it more unique as I have another new built one.

There are a few hop up parts missing but not many.

Front gearbox and lower arms go together lovely with the lightweight shaft and front torque splitter

Also fitted the low profile carbon reinforced front tower

Very cool.

I have my own TA-03F build waiting in the wings for when I have more free time. Hunting down these Hop-Ups is a costly but rewarding process!

I recently obtained a set of aluminium steering arms (53326) which is new in packaging! I was worried about opening it but on delivery it turns out the glue holding the carboard to the back has given up anyway, it practically opened itself!

Yes, these parts have been accumulated over years, probably decades as some of the prices now are eye watering 🥵

well that seems like a sign to me, they just didn’t want to stay in the packet 😂😂😂

Getting the front end finished off

I really enjoy building these early touring cars

I know that a TT02 would probably destroy it on a track but doesn’t it look great 😍

Sorry to jump around but been working on a few chassis projects.

This one is a TA02 with lots of non-Tamiya period correct Hop Ups installed.

It has lots of Tamiya goodness too but I wanted to build something to showcase what other manufacturers were putting out at that time.

Cross front and rear carbon shock towers with integrated stabiliser bars

Cross arms

Square front knuckles

unknown prop shaft (was in the packet but was missing the header card) but it’s a thing of beauty - have you seen anything that looks as good as that?

non Tamiya lower and upper deck

Tamiya universals front and rear, Tamiya shocks, Tamiya front bumper, Tamiya one piece racing wheels with shaped inserts and Tamiya black nuts, speed tuned gear set with front one way plus lots more….3590DD0F-0345-4712-91DD-59B6AECE0903.thumb.jpeg.c3a71e5d5ac3930217bcf76274d129aa.jpeg
