What color blue is used for the Blockhead Motors Wild One and Hotshot 2? o

Recommended Posts

I want to paint the chassis on both buggies, but I do not know what the Tamiya color code is for each blue color they used.

They're different on each car, and it's PS-3 Light Blue for the Wild One and PS-30 Brilliant Blue for the Hotshot II.

From what I can see @Twinfan is spot on PS-3 wild one and PS-30 hotshot but what I can’t understand is both aren’t backed by any colour presumably I would have thought white?

None of the pre-painted body shells are backed.  The Fire Dragon, Saint Dragon, Thunder Shot and Thunder Dragon are all just single layer, as is the Top Force Evo and the pre-painted Astute 2022 TD2.

The instruction manuals never say to back the paint, so why would Tamiya do it on their pre-painted models?

Both my pre-painted Desert Gator and Suzuki SX4 WRC were backed in white, but my Hyundai i20 Coupe WRC wasn't. 🤷‍♂️

Aren't they just two-colour painted bodies where the darkest colour was applied first and the white last?  If so, that's not the same as backing another base colour in white...

When I bought a MiniCooper MonteCarlo ready set long time ago for a friend, it was backed by white.. well, perhaps it was for the white roof.  That was a real nice body too.. buddy was very pleased.  I just painted mine with white roof and painted over the white with red..  I know @Juggular would have a field day with my improper painting processes..    with enough hope somethings are possible..

I thought I read the OP wanted to paint the chassis.. body or chassis?  If chassis it would need to be TS paint, no?  I would prime it and just mix the blue until it matches..

I'm too old for field days, but thank you Willy iine for the prompt.  It's kind of you to make me offer my view. Especially considering how @Willy iine models offer top of the line colorings. (I freely admit that mine are nowhere as good.)

There is nothing more personal than color preference. So nobody should feel bad about what they do. If you feel satisfied, that's it. Don't let anybody tell you otherwise.

Having made that clear, here is my theory.

If you have one color, some light can pass through.  You only get like 90-95% of the light that reflects back to your eyes.  The 5-10% that passes through and becomes shadow.  So the color looks somewhat dingy.  But if you back it with white, 100% of the light reflects back. The color looks more vibrant.

It depends on how sensitive you are with colors.  1 in 12 men are color blind, so it might be slightly different for them (though saturation wouldn't be affected?)  I seem to be more sensitive. My wife is a bit less sensitive, even though she's very keen on decorations, etc.

If you can't find the darker green, or this much variation doesn't bother you, you don't need to back it with white. Usually, this is how much difference white backing (or lack there of), makes.

If you can spot the brighter green in below, you might want to back it with white.

If you can find one in the below tiles, you are very color-sensitive. Tiny bit of dinginess may bother you.  Everybody's perception is different. There is no right or wrong. Do what you want.  It's a hobby.  (I often want to skip the white backing simply because I'm lazy...)

You are correct I want to paint each chassis the color of the body, also Juggular has my OCD going about white backing, I have found every light tile!!!

Yeah, I see those too..  I scratched my head when I had to match my wing's yellow (TS) with the PS body..  it's close enough for this car, but if I was to do it again, I would prime the black a few more coats with white before the yellow.  It was a guessing game thinking the TS would turn out too light unless I left some black showing through the white primer.. but apparently not.
