Has anyone seen this yet.
Associated has a new 1:12 solid axle , ladder frame retro monster truck.
380 brushed motor and an unlicensed body with light buckets and chrome.

Not for sale until April , but Tower in the US is accepting pre orders.
It’s an RTR but wondering if it catches on if they will have a builder’s kit version.

Yeah, after a while they all start looking the same.  I suppose if the 380 based drivetrain can provide the power crawler folks need and be at an ideal hobby grade chassis, then perhaps.  Otherwise, just another budget RTR that will be passed up (by me).

Body to me doesn't look all that great either.. nothing on the car moved me.  Not that it means anything.

My thoughts are the drivetrain ( and chassis) up to the challenge of a slight power upgrade Of a cheap eBay brushless 380 system ? .

If so it could be a lot of ( ill

handling ) bouncy fun, in a smaller package.

This is based on their junk 12th scale crawler, not sure why they even wasted their time.  Sorry to be so negative, but that AE 1/12 scale crawler is junk (plastic ring gears for one) and I'm honestly starting to detest small scale stuff for some reason :)  The 1/24 mini monster truck thing is so irritating to me, can't stand them.

Missed opportunity for Associated. This was a day one for me to go under a Blackfoot body until I realised it was the CR12. They may have changed it and I’d like to be wrong but it’s a hard pass.
I might grab a set of the rims and tires for the parts bin if they aren’t too expensive though.

Good point, the wheels/tires could be useful...

I was kinda excited when I saw this, but I think they missed a trick here.  My first thought was it would use the Element Enduro parts, but it doesn't, it's that other little crawler thing.

There's no reason why they couldn't fire out a 1:10 scale MT under the Element name, using Enduro parts.  But they'd have to get it right, because it would have to compete with the SMT-10 and LMT.

On the other hand - if a used one turns up cheap enough, I might give it a look for a 1:14 scale build - I really want a 1:14 scale MT to go on the flatbed on the back of one of my big rigs.  I'd probably keep it loaded with narrow tractor wheels (workshop wheels) and have the MT wheels and tyres strapped to the flatbed, but would be nice to have the option of putting the big wheels on when it's on display.  I'm not really sure how else I can achieve the 1:14 scale MT look, the 1:18 crawler stuff is waaaay too small and the 1:12 stuff (even the MTX-1) is too big.

(Note to self: I've just remembered that the MTX-1 wheels are very deep, with the hexes mounted right on the rear face.  If I mounted TLT wheels and relocated the shock and link hangers inboard, MTX-1 axles could make for a good 1:14 scale axle...)

Really not a fan of that body. The grill looks awful, odd chrome parts and terrible stickers.

I thought the CR12 looked quite neat - but people did have gear stripping issues, so bigger wheels will only make it worse, assuming they keep the same set up.

I much prefer the look of this one, which is a standard CR12 with GF01 wheels/tires. I think it looks great. The CR12 had a 225 wheelbase, and this is new one is 236mm, which doesn't make it that much smaller than a Blackfoot.

A genuine 1/12 scale monster truck would be  brilliant, something around 210 - 220 mm wheelbase, but I'll still have to wait.

Mini-Zs are the only small scale stuff that I get, 1/24 crawlers always seemed more of a novelty to me that can be absurdly expensive to upgrade.

I hear this, I keep waiting for the small scale-bubble to burst, but it doesn't seem to be happening any time soon.

The Traxxas 1:18 stuff looks fantastic and they're selling really well, and there's lots of demand for small-scale courses at the 1:10 crawler events now.  It's neat that they only take up a tiny corner of the venue while the rest of us roam around a huge quarry or hillside, but it still feels too gimmicky to me.

I get the Mini-Z thing.  Not for me, but I definitely get it.  I really don't get the 1/24 crawler thing at all.  They seem pretty expensive and the performance is just poor having no weight to them, more like toys in my opinion.  I do have an FMS Monster Truck that someone gave me but have only driven it once.  I really just don't get it :)

One big, big thing I'd like to note about those TRX4ms and the FMS Smasher being handed out to youtubers, both some with bronze bushings. Better than plastic but you need to reassemble everything vs building ot right from the getgo.

I liked 1/24 crawlers better when they called them "Stompers" and they came with more bodies than "Jeep, Bronco, Land Rover".

I don’t remember if it was A Stomper , or its competing brand Rough Rider 4x4, but I recall I had one that had a gen 2 Pontiac Firebird body. I’m sure that was on the heels of Smokey and the Bandit popularity.

( I just fact checked myself and I’m not sure if they had a Gen 2 F body, but I did find a gen 3 Knight Rider Firebird rough Rider . )

I was lucky enough to have both of these playsets. I have recollections of swapping foam tires on for indoor carpet use and rubber tires for outdoor play. For some reason, I also remember having a Datsun Stomper and my dad telling me they weren't calling them that anymore. Keeping an eye out on car rides, I saw Datsun dealers becoming Nissan dealers. Random memories about simpler times.
