When upgrading my holiday buggy to a 540 mount, what is the correct pinion gear I should be using?

This may sound stupid but can you get metal gears or anything regarding the gear box?

Lastly my holiday buggy has always had a rollcage/light protector/tire rack. Does anyone know if it was an option as all the photos I see now while researching I have not come across one. It is all one piece with the windscreen surround and uses the original locations so I presumed it's how they all were before I looked into it.PXL_20230311_134647374.thumb.jpg.f5e3d346a0d3290399fb172609ba321e.jpg

Hi and welcome to Tamiyaclub. Can't say anything to the pinion but I'm pretty sure that there is no metal option for the gears.

Although it look very well made, the cage looks like something selfmade. From what I can see on the picture it looks like if the original window frame was broken out. Maybe after a crash and to protect the roof and lights someone made the roll cage. I assume you're not the first owner of this car?

Ok thank you for the input. The car was my dad's I used it with him as a child but he's no longer here to ask questions about it and growing up I never compared it to another I just thought it had a cage as standard until recently when it was pointed out to me.

On reading this site I have found I should use a 15t-19t pinion 0.8 tamiya or 32dp traxxas as it is stronger.

I will do some research regarding spur gear etc as don't want to damage them
