I run smaller 2cell lipos, similar to original Tamiya ni cads, but even then I had to space out the battery stays with unused plastic bearings.

Unfortunately not.  I run the Tamiya-shaped 2s packs you can get on Amazon, they work well.

These guys - https://www.amazon.com/GARTPOT-4000mAh-Battery-Hardcase-Associated/dp/B07J5C6J9V/ref=sr_1_2?crid=2O4CDBFJV7CT8&keywords=2s+lipo+tamiya&qid=1680708550&sprefix=2s+lipo+tamiya%2Caps%2C84&sr=8-2

Have been using them for 3-4 years in my old Tamiyas and they work fine.

not really the same, but i bought the traxxas trx4 blue f150 instead. for some reason, i didnt want to buy different batteries for one truck. instead i spent twice the money on the truck and on ec5 connectors instead of buying the blackfoot. my logic is really flawed.

i like the trx4. its my second one. i also have the 1979 bronco version.

This is what I have done also.
