SW-01 / T3-01 Tyres / wheels school boy error!

Recommended Posts

So my sons have an SW-01 each and I ordered the wider rear hopup tyres(54830) and wheels(54831) from the T3-01 to give the SW-01s a slightly wider track

Both of the SW-01s have Yeah Racing Aluminium CVD upgraded shafts with 12mm X 12mm hexes.

What I didn't realise is that the T3-01 54831 wheels are 10mm hex size........  anyone know where i might get a 10mm hex that would work (preferably 12mm thick with usual 4mm compatible hole)?

hmm i am thinking 3x M6 nuts with some copper tube inside super glued and together with a slot cut in the last one to go around the pin on the shaft...

.. it's not as if the SW-01 even with the torque tuned motor is that torquey! ;)

did think about 3d printing but it's not cheap atm...

I think even then the rims have just a 2.6mm centre hole, rather than 4mm? Because they're intended for use with a 2.6mm screw fixing rather than a locknut :(

Looks very similar to the arrangement on the TamTech series.

Methinks you're going to need a different set of wheels unfortunately.

I had exactly the same predicament and 3d printed some hubs with jlcpcb. A couple of bucks and *much* cheaper than shapeways.

It's my first real experience so the tolerances are too tight (I modelled them "to size" which is obviously wrong if you measure a real hex hub) but I can wedge them in.

Use a body reamer to carefully drill out the wheels. The plastic is soft. Have patience and it will look perfect.

If you're steady then drill out and trim down the original plastic hubs with the little tabs, or sand down some normal plastic Tamiya hexes. You won't need to get it perfect, just good enough then tighten down the wheel nut to secure and balance it.

The extra wide wheels and tires are far too cool not too give it a try!
