Egress rear shock tower mount design

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I was asked to look into producing an alloy rear shock tower for the egress as I believe they break on impact?! So this is what I've come up with:

I'm, assuming there's a need for this part? Anybody have any design considerations I may have missed? I've replicated the originals but it's a chance to improve it. I don't own an Egress so I'm unaware of anything that relates to this shock tower. Thoughts and feedback appreciated - Thanks

I have run my Egress re re very hard with a low turn brushless since release, I have never broken the rear tower, I think I have broken 3 front towers………

You are doing some hard running or running some hard springs to break the rear bulkhead.  I've broken one once doing both.

No real experience with this car but generally adding alternate shock mounting positions is the way forward , for greater or lower ride height or more layed down or upright shock position , these help tune the suspension .

Interesting info thanks, it looks like the front towers are the bigger problem, it's a much bigger task to design some of these but not out of the question

Better to have a front shock tower fail on the egress than transfer the force to the front A parts and write these off. Spares still a plenty but was a real problem before the avante and egress rere's. Anything that could strengthen the shock tower whilst distributing the load away from the A part mountings would be a great improvement 👍

Great work on all your parts.

Out of interest would replacement D1 and D4 kingcab parts be feasible?

Hey @Muso31 keep up the great work!  We can always use smart folks who can design things.

Nice work. Yeah, what D.Gunn said. Replacing plastic parts with more durable alloy ones is all fine and good, but do take note of where that force is going once that part is no longer breakable.

Would have been simple enough but it's good that they're available on shapeways.

It'd be nice to find a professional machinist in the community as it'd drop the price of everything. After designing parts they have to be machined to a +-0.02mm tolerance or the quality is poor. Sadly it's expensive unless a bulk order is made, but there isn't enough demand to order in bulk.

If I had time I'd create a community site where members can request parts to be designed, then the cost of machining can be split

Any volunteers to test some 3d prints of this part? I don't own an egress (very sadly) If so please DM me and I'll ship some out
