Heads up on Avante Black - great deal at Tamico!

Recommended Posts

Offer of the week this week at Tamico is the Avante Black Special for €336.13:  https://tamico.de/Tamiya-47390-Avante-2011-Black-Special-Kit

As of now, that's £293.30.  Delivery is €16 (£14) so allowing for a £12 handling charge and 20% VAT that's a total of £378 to your door.  £120 cheaper than a UK supplier, or a 24% discount.

As you can probably tell, I've just ordered one

That’s a really good discount in percentage…….but (and I’m seriously not being the grouch) Tamico was were I got my avante black from when it first ever appeared and back then the exchange rate was brilliant compared to now and it was about the £290 and no VAT or handling charges and I think it only cost me £12 shipping! How things have changed:rolleyes:

It first came out in 2012, so if you've got an original and it cost £300-ish 11 years ago and given all that's affected prices since then plus a poor current exchange rate it's only £378 (a 25% increase) I don't think it's all that bad.  There probably isn't much from 2012 that's not priced at 125+% of what it was back then.  1:1 cars for example have gone absolutely crazy in price!

You’re not wrong about the price of 1:1 car prices! I bought my current car back in the depths of the pandemic the car I had decided to end it all by snapping it’s timing belt prematurely although I’d changed it the bearing on the pulley gear give up snapping or rather slipping the belt it had done 280k!
anyway I bought a new car and after a 2 years of ownership I had to take it back to the main dealers because of a faulty sensor on the back of the catalytic converter when they returned it to me the salesman asked me if I was interested in part exchanging it or straight selling it to them and it was £2k more than I originally paid for it and more if I wanted to part exchange it:blink: but there goes the Achilles heel if I sold it because I didn’t need it then I would have been up 2k and 2 years free motoring but I need a car and the cars on the forecourt are a lot more expensive and I would have had to still add money to buy basically what I already had!

This is like my work van (Self employed). I bought it January 2020. Ive done 80,000 miles in it and scraped the side. The part ex is the same as I paid for it when it was 6 months old and on 6k miles. Great, but the cost of an upgrade is now a lot more so its a double edged sword

As expected, with two Tamiya kits in the order, it seems I've lost the Customs lottery as my parcel is showing as "Awaiting Customs clearance".  Ah well, my last two orders sailed through so while it's unlucky the largest order got caught it's still a great deal and I'm still ahead of the game  :D

Just the wait for Customs to do their thing and the letter from Parcel Force demanding payment now I guess...

we don't get a discount with Tamico - them being a sponsor do we?

@TwinFan are you calculations up top worst case? - though delivery is €22 for two models...

Yep, that's the full cost although the handling fee seems to be £13.50 not £12 according to the Parcel Force website.

I don't think there's an import charge, just VAT to pay. Unless anyone else knows differently? I haven't had my bill yet.

I've started racing my Avante Black. It sounds such an expensive activity that a discounted car might make for suitable spare parts. I managed to avoid pulling the trigger on this, but even now, its still only 378.14.

So any sign of your's yet mine started on Monday and is now in Belgium at the international processing centre (all my previous pre-brexit orders from Tamico i used DHL and they were obviously quicker! - what concerns me is being able to judge when it will hit my doorstep so that I know to be around

Mine went the same route as yours and was then "presented to customs" or similar.  If you click through various tracking bits you can get to the Parcel Force tracking number so that's the one to use when you find it.  Mine is currently awaiting payment of customs charges, and I'm waiting for the letter with the details.

If yours goes the same way they will deliver the day after you've paid the charges so you can time it for when you'll be around to receive it.

I was devastated to miss out, but the €378 price isnt too bad anyway. Ah well what will be will be.
