After the post by @Kowalski86 about cars to take on an official track my brain lurched to @TurnipJF's Racing By Post thread. Also, often in videos on youtube we see cars taking ramps and jumps. And all this got me thinking....

Has anyone ever seen just how far or high they can jump with their cars? Are there any kind of records? I wondered if anyone on here would care to share their "big air" exploits? I think to be classed as a successful jump the car must end up (after any rolls or tumbles on landing) back on its wheels and then continue to operate once it has landed.

Oh and if anyone wanted to provide photo or video evidence that would be great to see :)

I only have two cases of my Tamiyas really getting air, one was me driving an M06 off a flight of stairs like a buffoon (no damage, but it did land on its side), and this:

"Monster Digger" still operated after that jump, but the old ABS didn't like it. Now I have a Midnight Pumpkin for silly jumps!

I'm not into launching my cars into the air, but Instagram frequently has reels where people launch cars onto house roofs and stuff.. I mean whatever floats their boat I guess.

If you want to see what the world is doing with their RC, seems Instagram/YT is the place to check out.

There was a "big air" thread on here a few years back. I remember breaking a few parts trying to get photos... Seems like as good a time as any to start a new one. :)

Please dont misunderstand, I'm not encouraging anyone to just start launching cars into the air and breaking their cars. I wasnt thinking of launching vehicles off ridiculous heights. But the off-road race tracks I have seen often have humps and some cars jumping double humps in a single leap. I was thinking more along the lines of jumps from which the car lands and does not take damage. I always find it much more enjoyable to see cars on the off-road tracks which land the humps with their suspension handling the impact and continuing to whizz around the circuit.

Check YT of Kevin Talbot.

In my opinion it is quite stupid. Something will break, probably sooner than later. What is the reason to do this?

Jumps on track is different thing. Profile of jumps helps to not break car, because landing is quite smooth.

A couple of years ago I would take my Tamiyas to the track. It was fun while it lasted. TT-02B broke the plastic driveshafts, DT-03 broke the rear damper stay, Egress suffered a broken wing mount and front damper stay. That’s why I prefer to drive 1/8 at the track now. Bigger, faster, jumps better and more durable.

Yeah, just remember, it's the same rules as gymnastics: if you don't stick the landing, it doesn't count.

Nice shots, I can't speak for the Egress but I know that the plastic in the DT series isn't really up to my standards for a "serious" off-roader.

In all fairness, all of the RCs he jumps aren't Tamiya's and they handle it quite well most of the time.

As like most people on here I’m not one for jumping to destruction, off road near me tends to be a very unforgiving and harsh most of the time, but given the right a environment the occasional jumps do happen. Most often on soft sand at the beach, and a sport ground was piling up grass clippings which was fun until someone else threw smashed up concrete on top 🙄

Fortunately no RC’s have been hurt or killed in my fleet jumping yet 😃

I'm impressed by the quality of photos people are able to get as their cars whizz by!

These are the kinds of jumps that my RC see, just curb jumps. I'm too lazy to setup ramps!

How do you all take such stunning photos of your RCs mid-flight???? Absolutely breathtaking!

I find the ‘Burst’ mode on my phone works best. Just hold down the shutter button, follow the car and the camera keeps clicking away. Pistol type transmitters help here as they are easier to drive the car one handed. It’s surprising how good some action shots turn out with the car on not more than half throttle. I’ve taken more than 100 shots on some trips out, the more you take the better & just pick out the best ones on the PC screen when I get home.

I see nothing wrong with it. He’s testing RC cars, pushing them to their limits. His channel has helped me decide which cars to buy and which to avoid. I think of him like he’s the NTHSA or Euro NCAP, crash testing cars. Sucks to see cars get destroyed, but somebody’s gotta do it.

The Jackass of RC, and I don't mean that in a flattering way. In my humble opinion, it's just a terrible clickbait channel for the entertainment of people who haven't been through the "RC-beginner's laugh-everytime-the-car-crashes" first week in the hobby yet.

I did not write that I like that channel :P

I totally do not understand why he is so popular. Most of his movies are idiotic, based on crashing expensive models. Lot of fun...

Whenever I see a car crash or tumble it makes me literally (and yes I am using that word correctly :) ) whince in sympathy with the car. On the other hand some of the races I have watched in which the buggies all glide over humps, land perfectly on all 4 wheels and zoom off are amazing. Especially when the race is close and the buggies are in a line in the air jumping one after the other. Very impressive driving skills on display in those race videos.

For example, whoever is driving the pink car in this clip has some serious driving talent and the way the car behaves in the air looks like it has been very well balanced.

Sorry if my comment unintentionally should indicate that I got the impression that you like the channel! In reality, my understanding of your post was (and is!) that you pointed out that the channel is popular, but not your cup of tea. :-)  As this thread is about jumping, pointing out that the channel is popular, was in my humble opinion relevant and legitimate, regardless of what you (and I) think about the channel.
