Based in the U.K -

Looking at buying either a Tamiya hardbody kit or Tamiya lexan body kit.

Any paint recommendations?

I’ve only used Tamiya paint on a Lunchbox shell - which was a positive experience 👍

@Grumpy pants  I am assuming you can get TS (laquer) spray paint for your hard shell bodies in UK?  If so, that would be my choice.  That is what I basically use on all my hard shell cars besides the enamel I brush paint and some very minor work I did with acrylic via airbrush.

For polycarbonate, I would use Tamiya's PS paint.   It just works great imho and very simple to use.   I like simple, as you know as I just don't like to over complicate simple tasks.

GL with your choice and build!  B)

Your question makes me think you are not spraying from a can? So airbrushing or hand brushing?

Hardbody:

Airbrush - GSI Mr Color, get from eBay or Kent Models

Hand brushing - Vallejo or Mig acrylics

If PC body, then PS or Absima (spray cans) or Vallejo or Mig (airbrush, hand brush).

Apologies @alvinlwh - Cans only so far 👍

TS or Halfords then. If you want to go left field, get GSI Mr Color spray from Kent Models. I find them better than TS.

You don't have much options for PC bodies other than the usual PS or Absima.

Core RC for polycarbonate bodies. Modelsport and DMS racing to name 2 suppliers. Halfords for hard bodies. Massive colour range.

+1  @Willy iine

TS - or better - for hard bodies / primed between clear coats etc

PS for lexan - but you can start with PS clear then layer TS between PS coats for a wider colour choice ?

Allows the paint to flex etc

Personally, I’d go top notch / colour matched automotive paint for hard bodies - and in between PS

It adheres, covers and provides a finish way better than Tamiya TS

And easier decants to an airbrush for the bits 👍
