It's already bad enough we have to watch ads and skip ads.., spare us the grief. lol. this is just me. IKR lol , due to watching YT on my phone , trying to fast fwd the slider with man hands vs touch screen is a losing battle for sure lol:D
Gebbly 873 Posted July 19, 2023 Much the same as most media formats there is a vast amount of content out there and in amongst the noise (a lot of "suggested" videos can be poor) there is some great content but sometimes you have to dig to find it. For example 2 youtubers content that I have really enjoyed recently I found via discussions on this forum : @Misterp180's videos on The OAG RC channel showing it is possible to set up a course in our own garden even with a small space and his races comparing cars is really entertaining. Also I had some fascinating learning watching @Thomasl's videos on his channel "Timediavideo", in particular the 4 part series in which he details how he made some cool modifications (Can start with part 1) which I came across from 1
Kai City RC 181 Posted July 20, 2023 *looks around nervously* Interesting thread. I have my own little YouTube channel that started out purely for a way to share my builds with my brother back home in the UK. Though I must admit, wanting to recreate the Tamiya promo videos I grew up watching was part of the reason I started shooting running videos. When I began, I didn’t have any plans to do anything but pure running videos, after receiving so many comments asking how I filmed my running videos I decided to take the plunge and make a video explaining my shooting techniques. And it went on from there... Few thoughts. Long intros…Hmm. Guilty, on occasion. I’m not a fan on intros myself, but they can sometimes serve a purpose. I felt a short 10 second montage of my running videos showing the kinds of RC featured on my channel could be beneficial. Though I tend only to use them on a video that I suspect will attract many first-time viewers. As for rushing to put out content, for me, not really. Despite being based in Japan we are typically a month or more behind when it comes to Tamiya releases.. So there’s little point!! Plus I don’t do YouTube for the views, subs and certainly not for the money! The only time I kinda rushed to put something out was the recent Kyosho Dirt Master release. That said, if you're a proper "YouTuber" making a living off YouTube, then I can see why you feel the need to get a video out as quickly as possible. Views are money after all. 16 hours ago, toyolien said: I'm willing to bet that Tamiya Japan had very little to do with the BBX being pushed out to Youtubers. I would suspect that it's more to do with Tamiya USA. Tamiya's Japanese market is so large that I doubt they would need to do any advertising there, to sell kits. I agree,. AFAIK no Japanese YouTubers are ever given a kit in advance from Tamiya Japan for the purposes of reviewing it on YouTube. Some are given the chance to see/drive a new kit before its official release, but that's about it.
Rinskie 1318 Posted July 20, 2023 So glad you checked in Kai. Lemme be the first (probably not even close) to say your videos are how they should be done. Your VQS video is awesome and is the thing we need more of in the community. A real review and a fantastic job!!
Pablo68 1254 Posted July 20, 2023 I'm going to second Rinskie there. You make cool vids Kai! Enjoyable content. Now, the OP. I reckon if Tamiya was to do vids like they used to, I wouldn't put it past them to put it on an actual video cassette, or try and Fax it to you. Jokes aside, the Japanese have their own ideas on how they do things, and it can be very hard to change them, even if you are inside the hierarchy.
_Ben_ 312 Posted July 20, 2023 I also love your videos, Kai. And I’m not just saying that because you posted in the thread! Another channel I really enjoy - and I can’t be the only TC member - is Project Air. The channel descriptor is “pushing backyard aerospace engineering to the limit”. He builds RC planes, boats, cars, hovercrafts from scratch and in a few videos modifies and Arrma Limitless with aerodynamic technology. He also attempts to get a ROSSA record in a recent series. I like Kevin Talbot as well. I think he (or at least his content) splits opinion, but he clearly knows his stuff and comes across as a good bloke.
Misterp180 342 Posted July 20, 2023 @Gebbly what a lovely start to my morning read of the forums. Many thanks and I am glad people are enjoying my musings and RC fun. I certainly don’t do YouTube for the money, subs or watches but it is hard to ignore the numbers as things start to grow. My intention was to log my fun getting back into the hobby and encourage my daughter to find ways to enjoy my hobby with me. It has largely worked because she loves playing with RC cars just like I did when I was an kid! I have reconsidered recently what this means in terms of my interaction with YouTube and the community. I don’t have the time or resources to try and do things in the way others do and nor do I want to now. For me there will be more time trials and the odd build journey and that will be me. Occasionally my daughter and I will have some fun with our cars and I will post so when I am older I can remember those good times too 😁 What I have enjoyed is a brilliant community of content creators who essentially are using the format as a way of interacting with the user base and sharing stories and their journey. Nice to see @Kai City RC sharing his views also. David is someone I chat too through the comments and his videos always inspire me to look at new models as they give me that Tamiya promo feel! In relation to the original topic about Tamiya using the format to reignite their promo videos, I would love that!! How about they use people like David and promote the community from their pages and feeds?
_Ben_ 312 Posted July 20, 2023 I think Tamiya are too set in their ways… I mean look at the observations we all make about the kits, however much we enjoy them!
Saito2 8448 Posted July 20, 2023 I was going to keep out of this as I personally can't stand the "SMASH that bell!!! Don't forget to hit subscribe!!! crowd trying to make a living off of what, in my humble opinion, should be a labor of love, but I had to throw in that I really enjoy @Kai City RC 's videos. They're informative and enjoyable. I frequently have them on while tinkering at my work bench.
Kai City RC 181 Posted July 20, 2023 @Rinskie, @Pablo68, @_Ben_, @Misterp180, @Saito2 Thank you all for the kind words. I'm really glad people find value in my content. I'm often in two minds whether to publish a video as I tend to be overly self critical and worry that the video I'm about to put out isn't good enough in some way. Tamiya USA and Tamiyainc Youtube channels are fun to watch and have some great content. However, I can't help but feel if they'd done the BBX promo video in the retro 80's style manner, even more people would watch and enjoy it.

Willy iine 18843 Posted July 20, 2023 @Kai City RC Don’t worry about the comments from me, I’m just posting what I felt in general watching YT of all sorts (not just RC) and it’s just one tiny view of many. If any of my comments can help in any way, great. Otherwise please feel free to brush it under the rug as I have no significance in this world. I’m just another average Joe from nowhere.

You can tell that you are passionate about the products you talk about, and your running videos are great. No need to change anything you are doing. (Just don't be tempted to start reviewing junk from Banggood or Ali Express etc just for clicks...) 2
finder75 62 Posted July 20, 2023 @Kai City RC I too have seen some of your content and it clearly comes across as a labour of love as phrased by @Saito2 ,produced with knowledge and interest in the models you showcase, I started this thread to garner opinion regarding Tamiyas part in the whole youtube system and I will admit that it has proved to be fruitful regarding Tamiyas own content. Alongside passionate youtubers and the impressive quality and range of Tamiyas own productions I feel that a simple ,friendly nod in the direction of Tamiyas channel by way of a link in the description would open up Tamiya to the Youtube audience, new and old ( old ,as in, already aware of tamiya hahaha):D I must also point out that Youtubers such as @Kai City RC need only keep doing what you are doing as it is very well recieved and enjoyed and any opinions in this thread are exactly that , personal opinions. I hope that content makers that read this thread find it as intended , helpful feedback . I also wish to state that any opinions expressed would be in the interests of community spirit and never taken as a personal attack against any individual or style of content, No one can please everyone all of the time. I would also like to think that any youtubers that feel their vision of content is impaired by deadlines or time crunches , could contact Youtube for advice, I am sure it would not be a new issue to Youtube and they may have tips to help. I must admit that I am not too keen on using words like " content, content creator, monetization and influencer" as it smacks so much of impersonal corporate business speak but I guess it is very direct and covers a wide range regarding Youtube. now about this Tamiya Duck .... Tamiyas vid was posted 8 days ago .... they gonna tease us again? Some say with the right batteries ... that Tamiya Ducks power level is over 9000....
Kai City RC 181 Posted July 20, 2023 @Willy iine @toyolien Thanks for the kind words and positive feedback. RC has been a passion of mine, like many others on here, since childhood. I enjoy making the videos I put out, but I know that they won't be to everyone's taste. For me, my channel is purely about sharing my passion with others. Hopefully some will find it entertaining and maybe even useful. @finder75 I don't think anyone took your comments personally. You quite rightly noted it's impossible to please everyone all the time!
Gabranth 217 Posted July 21, 2023 Personally despite not speaking the language I enjoy Youtube RC content from Japan. Found some really good stuff although Japanese Youtubers have their share of quirks like the quick jump cuts editing style they seem to love so much. However my lack of understanding the language actually helped by just tuning out all the talk and focus on the visual. I remember watching series of videos on Masami Hirosaka's channel where he built a TT-02B Neo Scorcher for budget race class and despite having minimal hop-ups he dominated the races before sadly the car got broken on final race. Actually that video series have English subtitles if I remember correctly. My best find though is Chan-Yuka's RC channel, the lady has genuine passion and she does many things from usual stuff like running the cars or posting tutorials on painting body to crazy stuff like building her own RC dyno to test the cars. Her custom Grasshopper build won a competition from Tamiya a while ago. Most of her videos have English subtitles too. So yeah my point is don't rule out videos with language you don't understand. Cool RC action is cool regardless the language
