What do you regret selling? What would you Never sell?

Recommended Posts

One of my biggest regrets is simple, selling this collection of 6 x super cars on various Tamiya chassis - to fund a blooming 1:1 car 🥲

My Tamico 934 Porsche. Was a low double digit number still sealed. I sold it for £50 more than I paid, now look at them.

I also want to say I regret ‘selling’ my M-01 Mini Cooper and TL-01 Focus from the 90’s. However, I dont actually think I sold them, I dont know where they ended up. But truth be told they were both so trashed they’d not be worth anything now.

as someone who is on their 3rd return to Tamiya, I miss a few that I have owned:

Lunchbox: first Tamiya (‘88) and the one I held onto longest (until about ‘15).

M01 Rover Mini MC: first M Chassis, around (‘97). Eventually had funky factory colored chassis parts and a built-to-spec body. Sold around ‘05.

M03 Mini Cooper Racing: bought when released new ‘99. Much of an improvement over the M01. Driven at Tamiya USA headquarters track and TCS.

TG10 Mini Cooper. This one I miss the most. Purchased at Hobby ETC in Riverside CA for $175 USD. I remember a stack of them marked down from $250.

and my RC10 Champ Edition I built when I was 11.

Regrets? I've had a few...

Kyosho Icarus: I had one with some minor damage to the rollcage and an extra hole cut in the body. I sold it, thinking I would get a better example later on. Now, of course, they can't be had for love or money, unless I want to drop several hundred on a NIB example.

Kyosho Raider: At one point during my "buy in lots-fix up-sell for profit" frenzy of about ten years ago, I had five Raiders. Including one Outlaw, and one never-run Pro. I should have kept one, because they're tremendously fun little cars. They still turn up once in a while, but not for free or nearly-free like most of the ones I had were.

Kyosho Optima Mid: Sold along with a couple other things to fund an RC4WD Trailfinder II, which I ended up hating. I'll probably end up with a re-re eventually, but it won't be the same.

Clod Busters: I had two quite nice, very original Clods that I bought for cheap ($10 and $50) and sold them both. One had a bowtie grille. I have a Black Edition now, but I'd rather have the two old originals back. Can't even remember what I sold them to buy.

RC10s: I went through a dozen RC10s between 2010 and 2015, bought in two big lots and a couple of single cars. I sold all the nice ones, including a perfect never-run 10T and a really nice CE, and kept the junk for myself. I have three fully-functional RC10s, but I do sort of wish I'd kept at least one of the pretty ones.

TL01s: Still my favorite cheap touring car chassis. Had many over the years, should have kept one. Maybe I'll track down a nice one eventually, but it's low on the priority list.

What will I never sell? Anything, anymore, unless circumstances require it. Selling RC cars is a pain in the hindquarters, I've done more than enough of it over the years, and I don't want to deal with that hassle any more. Luckily there are only a couple of things left that I want, because I don't have much space left. But I look around at my shelves of cars, and there isn't any "fat" to trim there. I genuinely like everything I have, even though there a re quite a few cars I can't really properly run right now (I have no good place to really enjoy off-road buggies on this property), I want to hang on to them for the future. This stuff is only going to get harder to find; I'd rather not have more regrets.

I regret selling my RC10T to buy a Twin Detonator when they came out. RC10s, in general, were cheap back then and I got less than $100 for it. It had very little wear too but I had convinced myself I'd stick to collecting solely Tamiya in the early 2000's. I was wrong of course, which is not unusual. I was freshly divorced and dirt-poor at the time, having to swing my mortgage payments solo.

I have a few things I can sell that I simply don't use or have affection for anymore like my Blitzer but only to make physical room for things like the TD4 and BBX that I've been slowly contemplating. I'm at critical mass now. The core of my collection is complete and I hope to hold onto it but the outlook is uncertain in the slowly crumbling capitalistic structure here in the US.

I'd never sell my original childhood cars and would like to keep my three 4wd collections complete (Hotshot series, Thundershot series, Avante series). I have about eight RC10s in various states and if backed against a wall, would consider selling some of them first as they bring decent money now.

My Re-re hotshot. I always regretted selling my original back in the day. My scratch builds. I built them because I wanted a model and couldn't buy what I wanted, so built it myself. My TXT-1 with the 1/8th brushless in it. Pretty much the rest of the tamiya stuff I wouldn't be bothered about selling if my son wasn't interested in it. I'm lacking in space and spend my time doing other things now.

Nostalgia isn't a thing in your teens, and I stupidly sold my Ultima and my Optima Mid Custom, to fund something else (probably just a night out..😳)

Not sure if it's worse, that I still know the people I sold them too...One has said they think they left the Mid in a loft of a house they no longer live in, or was thrown away in a clear out, and the other has said the Ultima might still be in his, but ,effectively,  can't be bothered to check....

They are the only 2 cars I'd have as "Shelf Queens" and would be , as is (none of this restoration carry on, the mids rear shock tower was repaired with a toothbrush! 🫣, but its the memories attached that make them what they are.)

Saying that, I'm pretty sure I've a Holiday Buggy, a Frog (my first 'proper' RC) , and Lunchbox in my folks loft, but all I can find is......🤷‍♂️

Some years back, i had to sell my then collection to pay bills.

Since i started collecting again, i have got all of the models i sold again, except a Blazing Blazer. I sold my whole collection for less than £500 at the time, and Blazer prices were quite low.

To buy a good one now, would cost me over £1000. I seriously regret selling that.

Over the many years I’ve built my collection then changed my passion for different rc buggies, trucks and cars the one I most regretted and still do regret selling was my team associated RC10 and the annoying thing is I can’t even remember why I sold it <_< and to add insult to injury I think I got about £100 ish for it because at the time the market place was full of them and you could pick up a worlds addition second hand even cheaper!

I sold a Tenth Technology Predator ETQ that I miss dearly, and a fully kitted out Yokomo MX4 that was beautiful and I regret letting both of those go.

I'll never sell my TRF211XM, TRF201XR, TA05v2, M07R or any of my Tenth Technology cars.

I'd happily part with most of the rest of my collection for the right price. I've barely used my TA08, Mission FT, and I'd probably sell my TD4 as well if I hadn't converted it to a TD2

It has to be my original King Cab.  I enjoyed all the other cars I had, but that one was properly epic.

Good build, good chassis and a blast to drive, looking like a monster but driving like a buggy. Never had a problem with it either (other than trashing the back of the body from too many wheelies from a slightly bonkers motor).

The most annoying thing is that I never recall selling the King Cab, so I don't actually know what happened to it either sadly.

Other than that, I was never massively into on-road cars, but the M03 Mini was a good laugh, and probably should have been spared eBay. Although it was a bit too rough in the end to become a shelf queen.

M03 that I had converted to rallycross, Optima Pro, RC10, Tomy Intruder (yes seriously). I also regret selling a 1/8 Lancia Delta shell. In fact I miss most of the cars I've sold over the years! Can't afford to keep them all though.

My regrets are only a group C chassis which went to @Scarecrow and a Castrol Toms Supra body set that I sold for a song🙄

Wouldn't want to sell any more of my collection but if only left with one I'd have to keep my Jaguar xjr12 group C

I never got to find out @Sogogi, I sold the minty one thinking I'd never use it, then regretted it so bought the next one, only to put it on the shelf waiting a re-furb and re-shell

No probs, it's me and my poor memory.

It was @i_am_scarecrow who bought my old group C of me(I think). Saw your Avatar and saw a scarecrow pumpkin think and thought 2 & 2 is 4! It's not obviously.

Anyway I think I'd regret selling a TL01LA as well, great chassis really if not a bit fragile. Loads better than a standard TL.

No regrets selling off my DT02/DF02 gear.

Some regrets selling bodies that took time to mask, paint, and decal.  Instead of getting bored with them, I should have saved them for runners.

I plan to never sell my TRF201, DB01, CR01, TA, TB, Group C, F104, or RM01 kits, or other brands with comparable specs.

I've had two big "purges"in my collection, and a lifetime of individual sales.  Most of the sales have left me with little-to-no regret, with the notable exception of a HPI Baja 5B SS kit I sold for maybe 1/10 of what I had into it.  It was a long term Baja Bug project that just sorta broke me..... and I got rid of it CHEAP.  I've regretted it on and off ever since.

  • Purge 1: A separation left me high and dry financially, and a quick purge of much of my cycling and RC gear was required to keep me afloat.  I can't say I regret any of it... as it allowed me to transition from point A to B in life, but there are a few things I wish I still had... DF03 Dark Impact, Team Associated TC3 with a Lotus Elise body, Kyosho Blizzard (the old version) with a lot of custom work, Tamiya Touareg, a bunch of high-end crawling stuff......ya.
  • Purge 2: Years later I had sort of moved away from my Tamiya collection a bit, was fairly house broke, and was looking to free up some cash for some other interests.  I purged most of my vintage Tamiya collection, along with some runners and NIB kits.  Here I lost almost everything of actual value, and the regret kicked in almost immediately.  Fully restored MK1 Hotshot, New built Hotshot 2, Sand Scorcher MK1, Thundershot, Manta Ray, Dyna Storm and Top Force.... NIB Boomerang, Hotshot, TA03 Lancia 037..... Oh man the list goes on.

I'm stopping typing now 'cause this is making me sad.... :(..... LOL

I never really regret selling anything for the most part, can't think of a single thing I'd want back.  It's funny though, I do get attached to my RCs and it takes me forever to decide to sell anything but once I do and its gone I'm almost relieved.  Same goes for real cars.  I buy and sell a lot and other than regretting selling cars that are worth a lot more these days I don't really miss any of the objects themselves.

Feel bad for you guys that had to move stuff and miss it, definitely a bummer.

You guys sell stuff?

I never figured out that part... of any hobby.

I may have too much junk.  But the memories.  :)
