So for Kyosho's 60th anniversary, they're releasing a replica of a 36 year old prototype car...Sign me up!   Joel was a 1/12 scale specialist so he was surprised to win a world championship in 1/10 off road.

Definitely looks interesting and top marks Kyosho for releasing an iconic piece of rc history:D……..but! If I have one small critique about it is it’s a lot of money for what it actually is! But it’s definitely going to be top quality knowing Kyosho and my names already on the order book:)

You may be concerned, but it's never stopped you before. Especially considering a Kyosho of this calibre. B)

FWIW, chassis appears somewhat different from the Ultima re re.

Also, comes with ball diff, gold shocks and turnbuckle, as well as some other tweaks.

I have no particular feelings about Joel Johnson, but I am intrigued.

If only people would start re-releasing 1980's dirt tracks to go with these historic buggies.

Great news, nice as, will pass on this one!  Will be excellent to see the builds on here and live footage on youtube after release. I already own most of the re-re kyosho vintage off road series...and my wallet thanks me for staying away from the race bred vintage re-re rc kits....turbo optima, turbo scorpion, optima mid 😅  unless kyosho re-re'd their pipe frame 1/8th scale buggies again.....it's shut up and take my MONEY!!!  🫴💰😂

100% this.  I wish there was somewhere near me that I could use.

The track that I race at (just started this year after a decade break) in Perth, Australia, is a 10th scale dirt track. My track is also a dirt track. This kit will work great. Will need 1 for Malaysia, 1 for Perth & 1 for the shelf. Money not enough :(

Yep me too. I don't think that off road buggies should be allowed to race on tracks made of smooth "false grass"!

And, "high grip" shouldn't be in the vocabulary of off road racers... (other opinions are available).

Nope, I can honestly say this one holds no interest for me. I'm glad it exists, but I have no desire to build a replica of someone else's race car. I'd rather start with a standard Ultima and do my own thing.

I remember that one of the main gripes about the original Ultima BITD was that the production car looked nothing like Joel's car that won the '87 Worlds (though the 2nd and 3rd place cars were closer). I guess all the years late (decades, now), those folks can stop complaining, lol. I do like it a great deal along with the whole story of the 8'7 Worlds and the upset it was for Associated, who probably rested on their laurels. But, competition improves the breed. I probably couldn't swing one unless I sell some stuff first.

Entertain me for a moment. Let’s discount the fact that this won the 1987 Championship.

Then re-examine this chassis. Doesn’t it look spartan, compared to the original Ultima? It’s a graphite plate with a servo mount, battery holder and a place for a servo.

I agree, but then again, so did the RC10 Graphite.

Funny that back then to win meant simply stripping a chassis of weight. There was no knowledge of chassis flex vs stiffness, corner speeds etc.

I wonder if they even had a minimum weight?

I don’t believe that one bit.  :D

I will probably just get one unit for me, build per box photo, drive it a little bit, and place next to my other RWD Kyosho on display.  B)

Still no pre-order available in the USA.
