Has anyone heard of the TT02D Type-S??? I just saw Thercracer do a review of it. Does anyone own one? If so, what do you think of it? From a beginner drifting standpoint? Is it THAT much better than a (mostly) stock tt02 with drift tires? 

Also, where to find it for sale, in the US?

Neither the standard TT02, nor the Type S have enough steering angle to drift that well. My Type S had a habit of sliding into everything.

The TT-02D+S is basically a Type S with a few nice bits thrown in and "drift" tires.

None of these variants come with front universals, I've heard helps improve the steering angle.

MST RMX, now that is a proper drift car.

Also RWD and much more realistic drifting, but also a lot harder to drive than a basic 4wd with drift tyres which behave a lot differently and quite unrealistic, but much easier

Oh man, ok...thats a bummer. I feel a little late to the party with rc stuff lol

I was just asking about the TT02D Type-S out of curiosity. I enjoy my TT02 and I really enjoy some occasional, basic drifting every now and then. But I also enjoy postal racing and wanted a decent touring car that could also drift some. I just know the TT02D Type-S had a lot of adjustablility compared to the stock TT02. So just wondering 😅

Yeah Ive seen em. They look pretty awesome. Im just not quite ready to dish out the money for something like that yet 😅

Try a 3R Sakura D5S. Cheaper than a TT-02 made to Type S standards. Pretty good out of the box with not much need for hopups.

Does that mean if you do it right, you can get it to be done and complete (body, paint, motor, esc, etc) and itd be cheaper than a complete TT02? 

Im seeing Sakura d5's for about 100 bucks for a chassis.

Not a base TT-02. 3R (in fact almost any other brands) comes with oil shocks, bearings, hex screws, etc... So you will need to compare like for like, adding to the costs of a base TT-02. Then they usually have a ton of adjustments which are either not available on the TT-02 at all, or an additional cost hopup.

Moving on, I was told (so not my claims) that 3R chassis are race based/bred, so they are in fact a higher class than a TT-02, yet they cost similar to one. So that is another cost that cannot really be costed.

Next, motor, etc, I always hated the Tamiya TBLEs and will avoid them when ever possible. I will even order a kit with them removed for a £10 savings if possible and buy a 1060 separately. However, with 3Rs (and many other brands), they are made for brushless OOB, some don't even include a pinion, leaving you to match your gearing to motor yourself. So while a base TT-02 with ESC and silver can is more economical, it is not as flexible, and an upgrade will still be a cost anyway.

So to sum it up, if getting a 3R (or MST, etc), I work out my costs as: chassis + electronics + body + paint. With a TT-02, I work out my costs as: kit + hopups + electronics + paint. I rarely feel the need (want yes, not need) for hopups for these kits but no so for TT-02.
