Name a Tamiya you’ve always liked but never got round to buying yet!

A newer car for me. I’ve almost brought a TC-01 a dozen times. It’s been in the online basket or once actually in my hands but I’ve never quite gone through with it. I like the shell, the one board shocks, the quirky design, even the price isn’t too high (in the uk at least) but whenever I’m ready to purchase something else always catches my eye. I’m not sure why.

The TC-01 is really good fun.

I wanted a TRF211XM for a long time, I waited too long. Now they don’t exist…..

See what the future holds, you might be surprised.

For me at the moment as it keeps changing, a holiday buggy as that was my first ever rc car back in 1980 something for nostalgia, and a wild one as I always fancied that aswell so I'll keep hinting to my good lady wife as its my birthday this month

Always liked the Zahhak. It was on the shelf at my LMS for years, nobody wanted the Zahhak. By time I was ready to buy the Zahhak it was gone.

Terra Scorcher.

I'm not a huge buggy fan, love my Hornet and have the Super Avante to build but I really bought it just for the build.

However, whenever I see the Terra Scorcher of @Ferruz, it speaks to me...

There's only one Tamiya I like that never got to buy it because I went on buying other kits.

TB-04R. I'll still get one someday.

Other kits I like to purchase are non-Tamiya. Kyosho Turbo Scorpion, Xpress AT1 and a 313mm crawler (not decided whether to go with Traxxas TRX4 or HPI Venture).

This thread is fun, and for me, certainly highlights one of my own flaws... not buying the fun things I want!  Ha ha ha!  Tamiya does a bunch of great RC stuff that always catches my eye (and usually at a lower price point), but somehow I always seem to talk myself out of the cheap fun stuff in order to add another more "serious" car to the mix.  Ironically it's not a budgeting thing, just a weird little voice in the back of my head that seems to think that buying a Comical Frog is foolish, but a (near) full option TC-01 is rational.  It took me forever to pull the trigger on a Wild Willy 2 (despite wanting one for decades) and a comical Hotshot.  So what's on my list?

  • Comical Frog/Grasshopper/Hornet/Avante
  • Farm King (probably missed the boat on that one...)
  • RC Tractor Kumamon Version (almost certainly missed the boat on that one..)

I would love several comical (wr/gf) variants. So fun to play with

XV-01. Just couldn’t get past the battery access.

Avante. All the nostalgia feels, but no parts.

Sand Viper. Proper rear motor 2WD, but shiny plastics. And no parts.

Ooh, there is a bunch of them!

Mostly fun stuff with big wheels ...

Lunchbox (almost always the first, love the happy puppy style)

Midnight Pumpkin (more on the fence with that one, have to figure out a solution to the weak body pins that doesn't involve spending hilarious money)

Wild Willy 2 (for its looks, but also because I have let's go make stuff ideas in mind)

And finally, the Clodbuster (for being so large and crazy, but will have to investigate if it's possible to use as an OOB build or if need extensive hop-up action)

You'll forget that once you start enjoying its performance. :D

I always wish I would have picked one of the Landfreeder pick ups on the CC01 chassis.   Saw them for I think around $125 ???  (maybe I'm mistaken on the price....) but never pulled the trigger.   It's back now with tracks but not me cup of tea.    My first four wheel drive vehichle was an old high mileage Ford Ranger with a long bed.  Same body style as the Landfreeder.

Egress, XV-01 and the TC-01. Egress I think I'll be worried to run like my Avante due to spares unavailability, the TC-01 as it can't really be made as a rally car but I love the layout of it. The XV-01 as the Lancia looks wicked but so much work! Maybe I should just spray one yellow like an old school Evo... Hmmmmm..

Brat is on my list!

Although, thoughts of gearbox woes I had with a Frog bitd, that doesn't seemed to have been fixed with the new dogbones, kind of putting me off....

The other was the Porsche 959, but always seemed a bit to, on-road (?) to tackle jumps (yeah, it goto go on the beach, as per every Tamiya vid of the 80's, but....🤷‍♂️

Can't go wrong with a yellow, blue or even a red one.

Yea...tell me about it. The front wheels like to fall off on the re-release too.

My advice is always to buy a vintage Frog, then swap Brat wheels/tires on it (they're cheap enough and your old tires are going to need to be replaced). Check and re grease the old hex drives

Hunting down a Brat body/mount is a pain, but there's plenty of aftermarket bodies.

To answer the thread better, I wouldn't mind a Mad Bull.

Look at it this way, it's two screws vs 4 body pins for the shell (which you'll drop in the grass and lose), lift the body off, then one or two body pins for the battery retainer.

Still doesn't beat an ORV though, just remove a single peg (then proceed to lose it and order a $10 part tree).

An Avante of some description. There is usually a version on rerelease at any given time, and I wanted one so badly as a kid. I suspect I haven't got one because I don't get the impression they are great runners, so that makes it hard to justify the cost.
