Name a Tamiya you’ve always liked but never got round to buying yet!

Recommended Posts

It can’t be just me is it?

I don’t mean you can’t afford it, or it’s too scarce they rarely come up for sale, I mean they are relatively cheap and plentifully available, maybe for those very reasons you just didn’t get round to buying it yet?

Mine are a Subaru Brat and a XR311 combat vehicle, always liked them but never owned one yet, can’t explain why as when I shop for RC I always find other stuff 🤷‍♂️😂

Whats your unpurchased secret hankering RC?

Blackfoot, Bruiser, Subaru Brat

When i as a kid the last two kits on my list (could only pick one ofc) where Brat & BlackFoot, ended with BlackFoot. Wanted a Bruiser but expensive:).

I can afford them all today but i have no room for displaying them so i find it pointless, there are better kits today if you want to drive, its interesting to drive The Grasshopper just to be reminded how they handeled, but i brake something on the Hopper each time (last i actually cracked the tub chassi in the front) so i will just leave it alone in the basement now until i have a room i can display them in then the Hopper will have the best spot, its such an icon and i love the look of that buggy.

Still think Bruiser looks very good, but not sure how much i will enjoy driving it, if i get a display room when kids move out i will probably buy one for display and very careful driving

I think I might get the GH, Hornet, Frog down the road.. not sure though.  The Fighting Buggy needs a friend as it looks out of place next to even my HotShot and other modern vintage (Egress/Avante/SuperAstute 2018) on the shelf right now.

I owned the 3 in the 80's so it's not that I've never owned them..

The Wild One comes to my mind first, add a Blackfoot, FAV and maybe a Fox after thinking it over...

Clodbuster.

Always wanted one - or a Juggernaut, but the latter has never been re-released whereas the Clod has always been available. It's just so cool. But where the heck can I hide that?!

Also rudely tempted by the MST monster truck and Kyosho USA-1, but keep returning to the Clod. Maybe one day.

Lowest priority at the top to highest at the bottom.

Monster Beetle Trail - GF-01TR

Unimog - CC-01

Asterion - XV-01T

TA-03 (Front motor version and mid motor version)

TA-04

TA-06R

TB-05R

TA-07RRR

TRF503 (unobainium)

So not a long list at all... :o

There are plenty of touring car chassis that I'd like to own (TA series, FF), but replacement parts aren't always easy to find. I don't want to snap an a arm and wait for a shipment from Germany.

I wouldn't mind an XV-01, but they're expensive here for some reason (like $100 more expensive).

I've more or less migrated away from the re-releases for a handful of reasons.

From the childhood there is the Hotshot. I remember we got the Leker og hobby catalog in the mailbox and I was sold on the pic of a boxart Hotshot with gold rims.

Last year I could have got one, but I was not keen on understeer,  endless bumpsteer, no place for electronics and flimpsy pinion alignment. I have no hands on experience with it, so no emotional connection to it other than the pic from the catalog that got stuck in my mind. Lyckily the Dragons were dirt cheap last year, so my monoshock alibi is a Thunder Dragon. With its bodymonts you can run a Grasshopper or Hornet body and then it looks like something that can be driven by someone out of flesh and blood ;). But still not the coolness of a Hotshot- even though a better car.

I'm very fortunate to have at least one example of all the first 100 off-roaders with the exception of the Falcon. Sonic Fighter, Striker (though I did have a pair of FX10s that I couldn't give away, lol). Some of the new stuff tempts me from time to time so I guess the TD4 Super Avante, CC02 and probably the BBX eventually would fall under this category. I'd have to sell some things to make room for any of them. Maybe I'll purchase them to scratch my itch for a totally new-style Tamiya build but I've got a Stadium Thunder, SMT10 and possibly a Bigwig to part with first.

I quite like the VQS but just can't convince myself to actually buy one due to either the kit price or availability of parts reasons.

Same for the Hotshot as it's iconic, but the sealed radio box puts me right off!

Avante or Egress. Love the looks, engineering is fascinating, but I can't justify the price. Maybe someday.

Brat, Frog, Monster Beetle, Blackfoot more or less in that order. This will change though. Soon I will flip a coin and deicide between the 4.

Egress and Avante.  Horribly expensive here and virtually nil parts puts me off.   Always liked the frog but somethings holding me back from pulling the trigger

Group C for me. I liked the look of them as a young adult when they first came out but didn't get one. I quite fancied the re-release Mercedes C11 but didn't get one before they went out of stock. And now that they seem to have been restocked, I still haven't got one.

However that might change soon as I have been dropping heavy hints in the run-up to my birthday at the end of the month, and my wonderful wife has an excellent track record with regard to picking up on such hints. 😍

Clod, Blackfoot (perhaps 1st gen body on later chassis) Rock Socker and Mountain Rider.

I've got an all 1/12 collection so any true 1/10 would not fit in, however these would be my pick.

If someone gives me a grand for free I may just get them all! Unlikely.

A newer car for me. I’ve almost brought a TC-01 a dozen times. It’s been in the online basket or once actually in my hands but I’ve never quite gone through with it. I like the shell, the one board shocks, the quirky design, even the price isn’t too high (in the uk at least) but whenever I’m ready to purchase something else always catches my eye. I’m not sure why.

I'm happy with my small collection but there is one car that I'm waiting to buy (when it's available to order in my country) - The Boomerang.  I would paint it yellow.

My first ever Tamiya product was a mini version of the boomerang back in the 80's.  I had a lot of fun with that car.

The Lunchbox and the Grasshopper 1.

I already have a Wild Dagger based Monster Truck for me and a Stampede for my daughter, so there is no need for an additional Monster Truck especially for one with let me say 'alternative handling'. But I love the look of it and every now and then I want to buy one.

Almost same fot the Grasshopper 1: I've owned a re-re Grasshopper 2 when it came back. Still love the look of it but the bouncing behavior, even with oil shocks, is something I don't like. So I sold it only a few days later. That's the  reason I've never got a GH1. Maybe when it comes back as the black edition. But then just for display purpose.
