Sniffing Tamiya Threadlock...

Recommended Posts

The blue stuff. Yes, I know I have a problem but is it just me?

Not sure if it's nostalgia or genuinely just a great smell. No idea what the active stuff is in it - nothing else smells remotely like it.

I prefer the strawberry one.

Its not just you. The vintage blue stuff smells great. The red just isn't the same.

Oh wow, look at that - definitely not alone then!

Who'd have thought there be duplicate forum thread issues on this topic?! Just goes to show, Tamiya smell is important.

I know that's what I though. I assumed I was the only one that decided to see what it smelt like😁

I had a tube of the blue stuff in my tool box way back when I first returned to RC over 15 years ago.  It got hot in the sun one afternoon and the tube expanded and leaked everywhere.  Even now, the inside of my toolbox still emit that blue threadlock smell.

Last year a bottle of tyre glue decided to leak in the heat as well, and all my stuff came out stuck together in one big homogenous bundle.  So now it smells like a mix of blue threadlock and tyre glue.

Hopefully they aren't a dangerous combination.

Yup, smells great.  Right up there with the smell of new kit tires :)  Tamiya tires just smell different.
