Kol__ 2823 Posted August 26 So lads, last night Tamiya presented a Super Sabre on their show - link below, forward to about 2hrs 25mins or so to see them bring it out... from under the table. The only word I could understand is 'Prototype', said a couple of times as if covering themselves for the moment, but it seems like a ReRe is coming, and no huge surprise considering the re-release of its brother the Boomerang. Anyone able to tell us the gist of what they're saying? Link to vid... Screenshots... To me this has always been a bit of a classic and has quite a unique, space age look to it in the Tamiya world. I have a used model to restore, with new og chassis etc. to build it proper. It looks like I'll hopefully be able to pick up a proper Tamiya shell for my restoration, albeit in a thicker modern polycarbonate, which I actually prefer as they are waaaaay more durable. I already have a set of original stickers - need to get them out and compare to the model they displayed in the vid to see if, as with many rere's, they've changed certain stickers due to brands and sponsorship shizz etc. How many others share the love for this space craft of a buggy?
GToddC5 693 Posted August 26 I would love to add one to my list of 1987 models represented - bring it on!
Saito2 6035 Posted August 26 Sigh, darn it! I thought I was out and then they drag me back in. Yeah, with the fake sponsor stickers and the missing MSC resistor, we're likely looking at the forthcoming re-re here. From a history standpoint, this is the end of an era and changing of the guard from the original Hotshot series to the "sleek" new Thundershot series. Its Tamiya trying to get a tiny bit more use out of the old molds before ending the lineage for good (at least until the re-res) by slipping a spaceship body over the old 4wd tech underneath. The Super Sabre hit the shelves about the same time as the Thundershot itself so I'm not sure how good the sales would have been. Why take the old buggy in a new suit when the new future of Tamiya 4wd was sitting right next to it? Only the uninformed or those drawn to the Super Sabre's good looks would have went for it. It just so happens my late father was one of those guys. He never did pull the trigger, but the Super Sabre was always his favorite. I'll snag a body set for my restored original and buy one of these to run, probably thinking about my dear ol' dad the whole time. Please, please Tamiya, don't mess around with limited production runs or poor distribution. Just give it to us straight so we can buy it without being whipped into a panic. Its strange, but to me, this is more important than any JJ Ultima or BBX.
Kol__ 2823 Posted August 26 Great post, as always @Saito2 Glad to hear the love is shared and that this is a particular special one for you, one that's close to your heart. They say that the strongest memories, in particular from childhood, are imprinted so strongly due to the strength of the emotions created at the time of the event/s. So I am excited for you to run one and relive the feelings associated with this classic car from back in the day buddy🤗 And @GToddC5...

Well, I started with Mini 4WDs like 3 decades ago, (2 decades before my first RC) and many of their cars are spacecraft like so yes, I love them that way.
Willy iine 17948 Posted August 26 Was the car announced earlier? They don't clearly state it, but Maezumi-san suggests something to the notion of 'how's this towards the end of the year?' They talk about the current trend of slim body with driver being quite popular. That is also available in mini-yonku so there are many fans from that arena interested in the car. They heard a lot of comments asking for the car on their YT channel especially after the BHM Hotshot2 was released. They were also playing around with the ride height, 'woo looks good' when Maezumi-san pushed it down repetitively. I'm not much of a fan for this car in particular, but hope guys' wishes come true!
Sogogi 2426 Posted August 27 Looks good… but another variation of hotshot…

I am glad they have changed the shocks slightly, my vintage ones are still noticeably vintage.
ThunderDragonCy 7285 Posted August 27 This is great. Mainly because I can get some red offset rear knuckles for my Hotshot 2ish build and put the shocks in front of the arms. Actually, this is a combo of HS2 and Boomerang isn't it? It has the short shocks and lower rear shock mount of the HS2 to get the shocks under the body doesn't it? Then with the boomerang tub and steering. Would be a good basis for a proper colour HS2. Or do the red shocks finally signify that a proper HS2 rere is in the works. They certainly have all the parts now. 1

Everything is Boomerang except for rear shock set-up and colors. The rear towers from the HS2 and Super Sabre are different and not interchangeable although they both allow the use of short rear shocks. The read shocks/bits are the only other carry-over from the HS2.
kontemax 1698 Posted August 27 GOOD! A spare body part for my vintage Sabre. I have a totally restored Super Sabre with a new in box body an stickers. A spare body and dampers will be a nice addition to my collection. Max
Rinskie 289 Posted August 27 This is good news. I hope to see it on the market but last I checked, the actual announced Boomerang still has not been released yet.
sosidge 618 Posted August 27 Super Sabre was my first car. But I won't be buying one of these.

Ferruz 10535 Posted August 28 I'm a big fan of the Super Sabre, I've been into it since the early days when a friend of mine had the Mini 4wd version. It's by far my favourite out of the Hotshot series, and I think Tamiya absolutely nailed the box art on this one! Very happy to hear about this re release. I just might get one, we'll see when it actually becomes available. Thanks @Kol__for the heads up

Thanks for the translation @Willy iine, appreciated mate👍 I hadn't noticed the change to the shocks @Snappy1, I'm really not a fan of the ribbed design on these types of shocks. The finer sort of knurled finish on the original style caps are way nicer. One more reason that my original restoration will stay set apart from the rere😁 Word is that the body shell will be precut and prepainted, that's fine for me as I'll be going box art, but hope the outline for the resistor is still there in the shell. Already being advertised around the £220 mark in the UK, with an expected date of 1st Dec '23
Fruitfly01 596 Posted September 1 I have an original awaiting a body. I have a BNIB original body but I don't want to cut it and it's been like that for years. It'll be good to get a new body that I can actually cut, paint, sticker and fit. I consider the Super Sabre Tamiya's first futuristic looking buggy and clear departure from their previous dune buggy designs. 801st post
