I like Addams Playground... The guy is just a good guy with a hobby a working man that just likes to share his stuff. Doesn't push products or try to sell. True hobbyist

Mechanic after hours is great. Doesn't post much, but when he does, it's great to see how he mods any car to make it from great to unreal.

@Phil_H aka Tomley RC, is one of the only Youtube channels i regularly follow, mainly as i feel like I've grown up with the channel, with him starting it, with doing the speed runs with us, on this forum.

One of his newest vids, actually has an old speed run vid and screen shot of the thread-

I am not sure if I wrote this, but after watching some videos, I really like this channel and it is one of my favourite.

RCKicks:....like Beetlejuice, I hate saying the name as I am afraid his content will show up in my feed. Not that the contents are bad but his personality is as uncomfortable as 80 grit underwear. He is insufferable, always whining and complaining about some fiddle faddle.

There is something, that makes me nervous when I watch his videos. Well, watched, because I unsubscribed.

Along with Kai City RC, I'd like to add Doctor Mosfet's content. They both have quiet, soothing voices and are very factual and genuine. I feel as though I could hold a conversation with these two fellows because our interest and demeanor seem to line up. I like knowledgeable, technical content and can't stand loud, in-your-face presenters or watching people "send it" at a skate park. Pintopower's Ampro videos also fit into this category as well and he's probably the only fellow I've seen using RCs responsibly in a skate park setting.

Honestly, I don't usually listen to RC content (I hate that word) while I tinker, usually settling on some of my other interest like music and film. I enjoy Patrick Willems breakdown of cinema. Strangely, I'm no gamer, but I love video game history and the Gaming Historian is perfect for this.

My dark side likes breakdowns of engineering disasters. Challenger, Chernobyl, TMI, Hindenburg, that kind of thing. Fascinating Horror, while very dark, scratches that particular itch.

Youtube is a hard game to play...

I try and balance my love of the RC Hobby with the 'Doing it for clicks'...  (which is unfortunately what YouTube forces you to do)

I'm grateful that I have a relatively mature audience that over the years have mostly worked out my humour/personality/immaturity. Lots of people don't like me or can't stand to watch my videos and that's absolutely fine, I don't expect everyone to like me, I've always been this way and I'm not changing for anyone haha.

Tamiya Speed runs got me into Youtube and I have this forum to thank for that :)

Yes, I do use it sometimes, but It's next to useless sometimes, and laughable at other times. However, most of the Japanese content is great to watch even with the sound off....

I just love to watch a slide-rule-using Japanese engineer in his 50ies or 60ies (Kyosho for example) build and explain the car he designed. I don't understand a word he's saying but at times subtitles pop up.

For years I had a picture in mind from Accuphase amplifiers of their engineering staff. All in white smocks, slide rule and pen in their breast pocket....

These guys are so engaged in what they do and fight a constant battle with the bookkeeping and sales departments.

Agree. The Japanese seem to be really interested in the Hobby and having fun rather than just creating content for the sake of it. I just wish some of their outlook on the hobby would be adopted by some youtubers here. It's so boring just watching people scramble to get a new kit first, do a video on it, and then never show it on their channel again.

Same here, it's even more boring when it's a sponsored video of an RTR of some sort.

"I stuck a battery in it, I drove it for 5 minutes, it's the greatest thing since grilled cheese and much better than the old model! Now I will proceed to raffle it off because I really need money guys!" (Please ignore the massive wall of expensive RCs behind me)

At what point does a hobby just become brainless consumerism?

Think i know which channel you mean. It seems to have turned from a hobby to an attempt money making scheme for a lot of youtube channels I used to enjoy. Which brings me back to many Japanese youtubers. Much more enjoyable to watch, even if I have to rely on the translate option to watch them.

Same thing has happened to Instagram. Used to be a nice outlet for sharing pics of the builds etc that people were doing. Now it's just posting something to get the maximum amout of likes and comments (for the most part)..*

* mini rant over

Essentially they've turned into TV shows. Watching Talbot wreck a expensive toy car is not much more wasteful than watching Top Gear wreck a real life car in the name of entertainment. I think the challenge is that they've gone from a single person doing it for fun into a full on commercial enterprise (many with multiple uncredited people working on them) but there is still the pretence that it's just a single person blogging about their hobby, and without any of the regulations around sponsored content or raffles that actual TV has to do.

Likewise watching reviews is also tricky, because although there are laws around sponsored content, it's not always clear what is paid promotion, and there are too many glowing "this is the best thing ever" reviews to not make me weary that they are not just reading a press release for free car.

Whereas ITV can't get away with it, no agency has the time (or possible jurisdiction) to really enforce it on YT very well.

I wrote the same under RCKicks video about Kyosho car, which he called Review.

He ran it for 5 minutes on 5x5 meters area.

Answer was more or less, that these cars are built to be platform for nice bodies. Nothing more.

Well, really nice Review. So much information. Now I know that I need it and it is much better than car from other brands.

There is also that "lottery" stuff. Maybe they should say directly, that they want to get A LOT of money and send cheap car to random person.

YouTube starts to be like unfunny joke.

And both completely stupid. Can't stand such nonsense and lack of respect of money and property.

I think the main difference is that no one was ever pretending it's Clarkson's actual car. The production company buy it to wreck it.

But a YT channel will be "I CAN'T BELIEVE I WRECKED MY $4000 CAR....GUTTED" whereas a more accurate title would be "watch us wreck a car for clicks".

It's a problem with many channels. Recently I was looking into the Element Bushido, I could barely find any "real" content but there were plenty of sponsored videos.

"It comes with a controller, a bag of goodies, and a manual! It's much better than the old model! (Proceeds to drive it for 5 minutes, then never shows it again).

@Murmel These are some of my favourites. You will need to use the Youtube translate function. It's not that accurate, but it helps to get the idea.
