Observing it closely, it seems that both the rear dogbones are popping out,

Is this going to be a trend with modern/re-re Tamiya kits?

I hope that you can get that sorted out, I'm kinda taking a Tamiya break after having my own dogbone issues (and seeing the issues with the MB-01).

I think it might be model dependent.  The Thundershot series seem OK with dogbones, so for buggies maybe it only affects certain series' of cars?

I am going to start a thread on this. While some of us has the experience to try and sort this, it will totally put off a beginner forever.

That's definitely a discussion worth having, I mean, even the "mid-tier" BBX has this issue.

I'm glad that it's working out for you now that the dogbones are installed correctly. I need to try out one of the "Shots" myself sometime.

Do you guys know if this universal set is for the front or the back?

https://www.rcmart.com/exo-design-cva-set-for-tamiya-hotshot-series-ths001-00124286

Judging by the rib in the first picture where they show the stock one, it should be for the front?

At 70mm they could work in both places, but definitely the rear. I think they may bind in the front? However, I believe some folks use the 70mm DF-03 versions made by Tamiya all round.

Maybe… ? The cup end looks like it may be shorter to compensate for the shorter front shaft. I know GPM used to have a 68mm universal (SDF 1268C) that worked in the front. But most 70mm sets bind in the front.

Great thread. I will work on mine some day :D

is there a list of what bearing to get to complete the build?

I am going to look into order the front suspension metal part as well.

I think it's the same bearing kit as all the other Hotshot/Boomerang series cars isn't it?

Yes, however the kit does come with 4 1150 bearings for the gearbox outdrives and 2 one piece thrust bearings. That leaves 13 1150 and 5 850 bearings to source.

Yep, same as other kits I mentioned I believe. Thanks for adding the details, I wasn't near my laptop to check my notes :)

It's interesting seeing someone without nostalgia taking on one of the vintage-re-re kits.

Might be slightly OT, but where would you rank the Hotshot in your favorite/least favorite Tamiya list?
