Show... your tools!

Recommended Posts

Show your tools! All, chosen or favourite. It is nice to see interesting or recommended tools.

IMG-20230915-153532203.jpg

Most of them are known almost for everyone. Which I really like?

Turnbuckles wrenches are very satisfying to use and quality is really nice.

Sharp Olfa knife and Olfa tool to cut circles. Super useful in work with stickers.

Sharp Tamiya plastic cutters. Do not buy cheap ones. Good cutters are expensive but you will not regret.

JIS screwdrivers, which are essential in Tamiya builds. I can write the same about tools set which is great.

E Clip tool which is "must have" if you have any clips in models.

Bike tire lever... superb to push aluminium tape inside body.

That looks perfect to me! I do have a few in common with these 👌

You are missing an M3 thread rolling tap ;)

One thing I have is cheap needle nose pliers that I cross drilled to 3mm to hold the shock shafts when screwing shock bottoms.

@Pylon80 thread rolling tap is on list and I will order it in a week or two 👍 Good idea with pliers!

@alvinlwh nice tool but to be honest, bit harsh for aluminium parts ( wheel nuts, ball nuts etc.)

One thing I really need to consider is service stand.

Here's some possibly less common stuff,

Pipe cutter for body posts,

scalpel with the screw at a sensible end,

small ring spanners are ridiculously handy

ceramic tweezers, deburrer, pin vice to name a few

Note that the pliers need to be clamped on something thin before drilling, else the piston rods will just slip inside the hole once you are done. I use a piece of paper folded 4 times if I recall, then I held it clamped over the paper with ViceGrips while I was drilling.

The micro pipe cutter is very handy to cut body posts neatly.

Try and get of shot of my collection (?) , as long as the OCD amongst you look away...🙄

One I would highly recommend,  is an MIP 1.5mm driver. I've snapped or rounded off so many 1.5mm drivers / Allen keys (and therefore grub screws..) over the years, wish I'd have saved myself some cash, and bought one sooner!!

Shock pliers are another tool I thought I never needed, until the kids got me one as a stocking filler. Didn't realise they had a bit for pushing the ball stud into the bottom eye etc.

My LED pit light has come in handy, with my ageing eyes, (if that's classed as a tool?), and quite like the vacuum shock pump, although, it's been stolen by my Wife, and has had more resin jewellery in it, than RC shocks.....

Your light looks a little perturbed. Are you up to something you shouldn't be just out of shot?

There's a clear plastic bin on my workbench labeled "Common Tools." These are its contents:

And then there's these:

And these:

...and that's just in the workshop. You should see the garage, where the "big" tools live...

Its only a 1.5mm I've broken many of, so far the rest of my arrowmax have been fine.

Seem expensive, but should be the last one you buy..😁

I wanted a vacuum shock/diff tool but I couldn't bring myself to buying one so I made this:

It works great and it was free...

That’s a great idea! To think I’ve been wasting this on claret.

Its plastic base doubles wonderfully as a damper stand

Have this and I can attest that they are fantastic. Have served me well for a long time!

Quite strange is fact, that JIS screwdrivers from this kit, seems to have bit different size that those sold separately.

Managed a shot of my tools, (well, some..)

Allen drivers, Lubes (diff, moly ,dry lube etc), thread lock, double side tape, camber gauge, esc programmers, parts tray , lexan cutters , shock pliers, superglue, spare fan , spare sensor cable , small spanners (4-11mm) , and of course a Tamiya T !! 💪

Quite like the 'Tuning Haus' wallet, plenty of depth, so you can ram a fair bit of stuff in. I've bought a 'fastrax' one for my daughter, and it's quite thin in comparison...

Funny you say that. I have the Arrowmax purple tools too (about 6 years now) but the first to go for me was the 2mm. I kept the handle and replaced the tip with a Hudy one, and have just done the 1.5mm and 2.5mm as well. The 8th scale cars use a lot of 2.5mm heads.

The power screwdriver tips are the same - Arrowmax but the 2mm is MIP now.

Here's the main tool set up I use for RC cars.   I love to repurpose things when I can so the base of this is a plaque from and old RC airplane contest.   The rest is just an old drawer organizer and some wood.....all painted flat black.

Holds probably 80% of the tools I need on a build that are very handy as this sits on the end of my work bench and almost everything has a place (so I put it back where it goes..... ;)).   Slowly adding more as I need them and have been doubling up lately on bits/drivers where one has a handle and the other fits a 1/4" driver.
