Tamiya calls `GrassHopper` a `High performance off-road racer`.. so ... lol

When it was released in 1984, I suppose it was high performance by those standards lol, 380 motor and all.. that is if there even were standards in those days.

The same way this place that was established in the 70s is world famous for its burgers … I’m sure you lads across the pond have heard it 😂

My son inherited my beloved 419XR and I bought myself a 420X. I built it but couldn’t bring myself to run it on our parking lot races. So I was showing up with my TA05 V1… then a friend showed me his Cero and I put my TA05 for sale, got $250 for it, added $70 and picked up the Cero Ace. I’m at Tamiya fanboy like the rest of you but thoroughly impressed!

I'm glad Tamiya is further supporting the TC-01 but unfortunately, I am quite underwhelmed by re-releasing the Mercedes CLK after it was just made available on the TT-01E.

I was really hoping for a new body, something with a low profile enabled by the TC-01. Tamiya has a Porsche license, why not invest a little bit and release a 917k? It would have been fantastic with livery stickers, but even a plain white one would have been an instant-buy (maybe would have bought 2), given the 917k liveries would be easy to custom-make.

I want a 917-30 so badly. I’m old enough that the TOJ was the 1/12 body of choice when I started carpet racing.

Turn radius is a big deal for me and the MB01 in stock form just does not turn sharp enough.   All my other m-chassis have no issue with turn radius.

Is it possible to mod 4WS steering into the MB01 for a tighter turn radius?

Yeah, perhaps but for me the chassis itself is not worth the trouble.

TRFs or your Ultra Ace is not even on my radar. I am more of a budget guy and is just considering the Sport 55/64 only. I started off with a MG Evo and was so impressed by how much 3R offered for so little money that I got a M4 next and then a second MG Evo.

The Cero Sport is quite nice!

You can increase the rear toe and toe out the front and it will aid in turn radius

It still won't be sufficient for my application.  There needs to be a lot more steering angle at full lock from the start.

I am sure the MB01  drives fine outdoors or on a large track.  That was only part of the issue which I improved a decent amount by cutting.. at least I can drive it in the same space as my other m-chassis.. The real issue was that the kit Abarth body would not fit properly on the MB01.  That is where it really became a bummer for me.  The MX5 body fits fine though.   Hope it works out for you Alfa guys with the MB01.   I'm too lazy to trial the Alfa body and wheels from my M04 on the MB01..

The fact that the chassis launched with an ill-fitting body, kinda makes me question how much thought was put into it.

Given all the jokes about "FWD Miatas" from the M05, maybe Tamiya should've launched the MB01 with that body?

Worse than the FWD Miata was the Renault R5 M05RA… that was outright blasphemy.. only thing worse would be a FWD 911

My City Turbo is RWD.. but then car guys are usually okay with RWD so I'm okay with it.   My @nicherotors Wheeler is 4WD..  thing is phenomenal and a trophy/unicorn car.

Seems Tamiya just wanted to get a new cheepo convertible chassis out as soon as they could without putting much thought into the fitment. I would caution putting much money into the MB01 until one is absolutely sure the body they want to run fits properly.  I can only confirm the ND MX5.

Renault R5, Alpine A110, VW Bus, NSU TT...

Maybe Tamiya should've kept the M04 going a little longer until the M06 was released?

I love the M04.

The design is relatively simple, minimal number of different sized hardware (not like you, M05-RA) and could easily be adapted in length and width.

Now, I'm not saying it is the best handling, the most tunable or the easiest to drive - I'm not qualified to judge - I don't race, never have and my road cars get out twice a year if they are lucky - but it is my personal favourite.I just like it.

Everyone else is allowed to like all the others :D

I owned the M04, during a period where I had little knowledge on setting up a car. All it did was swap ends, no matter what I did.

An RC acquaintance in a Thailand named Joel, raced the M04 up to release of M07, with amazing success. This made me want to have another go at it to see if I could make it perform. Unfortunately they don’t come cheap.

In someways the M08 is a modern twist to M04, since it has the mid motor.
