The flat head are made by banging on the tip of a rod, like a nail. These will never be as straight as the Tamiya ones that use e-rings. The groove for the e-rings is machined probably by spinning the rod on some sort of lathe and the end product is dead straight. You never find flat head pins on high-end kits either. Of course it's probably perfectly fine for casual use.

They could machine the inner head surface after forging the head.  I'm not saying they do, but they could. :D  Also, e-clips sometime get bent in use.

I'm glad these were found! bookmarking so I can come back to them in future builds. Anything that reduces the number of e-clips is a good thing.

I found some spacers.

M3 with Diameter of 5mm (D5x M3) should be good enough, I suppose.  There are 2, 3, 5mm, but unfortunately no 1mm spacer.

This is the one I use, same as Tamiya, going down to 0.5mm.

I usually have a few sizes in my basket and check them up when I need to make up the £8 for free postage.
