Hi,

I am looking for information about maintenance of Super Stock motors. How often it should be disassembled and cleaned? What have to be done during service?

If I buy it, I will use it in dry, clean conditions on tarmac.

Many people recommend a wearing/running in procedure before usage to shape the brushes on the com.

I found that cleaning brushes are not available :/ Only Lay Down version.

What can I do in that situation? How to clean motor?

Cleaning is of little value, especially with the Tamiya cleaning brush. It only makes your comm look cleaner but it won't make it any more round (cylindrical) since the cleaning brush simply follows the out-of-round shape as the motor spins. This has been discussed before and I verified it on one of my Formula Tuned motors. The comm will look just as bad after just one 10min run... So the cleaning brush routine gets old really fast.

In your situation I would just leave it alone. Spray the motor with contact cleaner if you like things neat and tidy (I do 😁).

Of course if you like tinkering there's nothing wrong with getting a comm lathe and playing "racer from the 90's". They pop up on eBay all the time for less than 100$. I am sure it would be fun but I have resisted the temptation. I really have better RC related things to do with my time! Also my best cars have brushless systems in them and they perform the same out of the box or after 50h of completely maintenance free running. This defeats the purpose of going all out on the maintenance of brushed motors.

@Jonathon Gillham I found that you ran SS motors. Any maintenance tips in general?

I ran my RZ bit too hot in TT-02 and see that comm at the end, turned red/ violet. Space under brushes looks bit dirty, but it is not discolored. Brushes looks fine.

I have a couple but they dont get run much. Unfortunately they are too fast for our backyard but don't fit any racing classes. We only run cars in the backyard or at the clubs, we don't got to parks etc. I took them to a hobby shop who had a comm lathe and they sorted them for me. I didn't see the point in buying a comm lathe when its just as easy to buy a brushless motor instead.

So sorry, but I'm no help here
