Hotshot 2 (original black body) rere announced

Recommended Posts

Model information:
• 1/10 scale R/C model assembly kit. Length: 390mm, width: 235mm, height: 160mm.
• The four-wheel drive with shaft transmission guarantees off-road speed and stability even in the most treacherous curves.
• 4-wheel independent double wishbone suspension uses CVA (II) oil-filled shock absorbers (one for the front and two for the rear) with a front stabilizer to get the most out of 4WD traction.
• The bodywork and rear wing are made of lightweight polycarbonate (0.7 mm thick) and use a color scheme with orange lines on a black base.
The polycarbonate body is pre-cut and pre-painted in black.
• Front and rear mechanical shells are sealed to keep out dirt and sand and contain differentials for smooth cornering.
• Sections such as the ABS monocoque frame and suspension arms are made of reinforced plastic for long life.
• Oval pin and spiked “semi-pneumatic” hybrid tires are paired with large diameter nylon rims.
• Includes updated sticker set.

This bit sounded interesting. I wonder if the've actually "reinforced" their ABS mix???

Really looking forward to owning one of these, hope its using cage from hotshot as hotshot 2 BH version has a taller cage and looks odd to me. But having either way.

I always end up procrastinating the painting, so I'm ok with prepainted (especially since I lean toward box art). BUT, I think they should adjust the price a bit and do like some kits that included an extra clear body.

If this is the case, I will be buying many sets of these.

However, I've never seen Tamiya used reinforced ABS plastics (fiber type).

Most of their better stuff is PA-GF or PA-CF, both being nylon based, not ABS based,

This is photo of what the box will look like and it looks like it has the same high roof as the blockhead version.

SOLD: Tamiya Hotshot II – R/C Toy Memories

Nah, I think we're okay. This is the original box for comparison. They look about the same.

In some of their TT-02 variants, Tamiya used a grey "reinforced" type of ABS for key areas. That might be what they end up using on the HS2 as well.

Yes I'd forgotten about those. Got them on my TT02 drift kit👍

Super excited for this re-re.  Agree with Max -- the BH version really didn't appeal to me at all; the original was such a looker that any deviation was inferior, at least to my eyes.

Now if Tamiya will just grace us with a Falcon and Striker re-re, my wish-list will be complete!

When the BH version was released there were a bunch of people that wanted the regular rere, so that's good.

But xmas 2024.. that's a long way to go for some folks.. I bet by that time the demographics will change as well..  I wonder what percentage of people that came back to RC during the pandemic is slowly going back to their normal lives away from RC...

Many many I reckon.  Life is tougher with inflation & other expenses like family trips getting in the way post-Covid.

I did that a while back for kits I wanted, but the air freight is still pretty ridiculous for RCmart to the USA for me.  And when I added more items to offset the freight, the total value of the shipment increased and got stuck in customs at least 4 times where it required calling FedEx and talking to an associate to submit some form through e-Sign.  FedEx said US customs is cracking down on inbound Chinese shipments with value over $700 or something..  so, the hassle is not worth it anymore to me..

The WC JJ Ultima, Worlds MID were ordered through a US vendor.   Sure everyone in the world but me already has the JJ Ultima.. but it's okay.    Not like I'm doing some YT channel show or anything like that.

Lol… no JJ Ultima or Worlds MID for the YT channel.  Long live Tamiya!  😬

Tamiya must have some sort of sales figures that show majority of kits sold better with painted, and cut bodies. Otherwise, why go to the extra expense? Now to just get all decal sheets precut like Kyosho......

There was a shortage of paints during Covid & supply chain problem.  Perhaps it’s led to this conclusion.

There's also the fact that most builders go with the box art for their kits.

I mean a typical Japanese middle aged guy's monthly allowance is like JPY30,000 my wife read somewhere.  That's like USD200..  that's got to be tough..    I was confused when a follower on instagram commented to me that he was jealous (in a pleasant gesture) that I got the JJ WC Ultima.. I didn't realize until I saw the box.. the thing costs JPY66000 in Japan.. never mind the exchange rate, the cost of living is different.  In Japan a guy can buy lunch for under 500 yen.. that's like less than $3.50.. so JPY66000 stretches very far in Japan.   Now imaging telling a guy he needs to pay JPY66000 or wait over 3 months to get a JJ WC Ultima..and that's just the chassis..the electronics they still need to get.    it's too expensive for them.

What might be left off in that story is in Japanese culture, constantly saving as much as possible is important.  Hence the allowance is given by the wife although its money made by the man after deducting away the target savings.  As the focus is on saving the allowance is adjusted lower based on cost of living.  Often the wife is a housewife (stay at home Mum) and has to do this to balance the household expenses and plan for the future.  And this is the ‘average’.

It’s different in western culture where savings are lower & consumerism is a way of life.

Every society & culture is different I guess.  But in every society, there are always those that are less well off & those with more disposable income. Japan’s population is about 125 million.  Say Tamiya, Kyosho, Yokomo etc sell 15k high end kits a month in Japan, that’s only 0.012% of the population.  That shouldn’t be too difficult to find.  It’s not expensive for people that can afford.

In the States if the product is right with consumerism, it should be even easier to sell more product with a population of 330 mil.  I guess that’s why there are so many US brands & almost all overseas brands want to sell in the States.

Anyway, just enjoy the hobby whichever which way we can.  Or count ourselves lucky & grateful if we can afford what we want from this hobby.
