Juggernaut 2 runner rebuild

Happy friday all! To say Im stoked is an understatement.  Ive been trying to purchase a Jugg2 for years.  I wasnt on the hunt for one this past week when I wound up stumbling onto an add on evilbay while looking for a bullhead to add to the collection.  While searching I happened onto an auction for a Jugg2 that looks near complete minus the wheels and tires.  This thread will cover the tear down,  rebuild, and the painting of a new body which will likely be the Highligt version due to the ease of avaialability, yes I understand there are subtle differences.  This will be a runner that Ill used to bash around with in the yard with my kids and the clod. 

Ive currently ordered the following items: RC4WD internally sprung shocks, bearing set, Axle housings, Clod wheels and tires, and and rear body mount as I can not tell if it is included.  More to follow!!!! Pic for clicks from the auction.

First parts have arrived! Hardened 16th pinion gears, still deciding what motors to use. I'm thinking to use two RZs.

Shocks, axle housings, and rear body mount have arrived!!!! I'm super stoked. I'm e the truck arrives I'll drive it for the week with my son and clodbuster and than disassembly will begin! Praying that I don't find any broken parts

Thanks, I've been pretty fortunate so far. Lucked into the truck for below market and just scored wheels and tires for 150. They usually go for double. Going to drive it for the remainder of the week when it snows up and than it's tear down and build time

The truck just arrived, I put a pack through it. RUNS perfect. No strange noises from the transmission or axles.  A quick scan and other than some road rash on the body and skid plates youd think it was a shelfer. Im floored how much fun it is.  Im going to enjoy it for the rest of the week. Strip down will start next Monday, Stay tuned!!!!! What a blast of a truck, Tamiy needs to bring out a Jugg3!

Awesome find, this is one of those trucks I always wanted, but never pulled the trigger on. Such a cool platform!

Wheel and tires showed up, WOW they are PERFECT.  Ive ran it a few times, have had some fun with my little man and the clod. Let the tear down/inpsections/upgrades begin!

I still remember being trusted to run the shop demo Jugg2 back in 2007 when they were already hard to get / rare to see. It's quite an intimidating thing and much more scale than a Clod. I'd love either, but there's no way I could hide it from the Mrs!

This truck is awesome! It's a perfect combination of what Tamiya does best. Beautifully detailed body, finally crafted metal components, and quality plastics. It's like they combined the qualities of the Bruiser and the Clod and got this.  I love this Truck already. A Jugg 3 is needed!

Lets goooooooooooooooooo, Body removed, this is the last we will see it with 8 pogo sticks! Im not going to tear it down to every bolt., it was built very well.  Axles, shocks, trans, etc.  The truck looks to be assembled well, loctite on all the metal to metal, and the screws arent boogered up, no need for a 100% tare down.  Im going to start with the rear axles. Inspect and if good save the new axle housings as spares and install ball bearing and RC4wd oil shocks. 

 

 

Rear end split apart, axle housings look great. No cracks, blemishes, etc. I'll be keeping these.  New ones will stay in the package

 

 

And all the parts left over....yikes.

I did not know these beasts had gear reduction type axles, pretty stinking awesome!!!

and ready to go back into the truck! 2000, thats what you want to see on your molds of your Jugg1 /  Jugg2 if you want it to run it. If you are trying to score an all original Jugg, and plan on not running it than you want the molds that dont have the 2000 on it.  Whats great is that Tamiya used these through the TXT2 so spares are kind of easy to get. Not Clod easy but, easy enough.

The Jugg is good to look at and really emulates Tamiya's original RC moto of Model Suitable to run, debating on just leaving that shell as is.  The Scars tell a story. Leaning toward getting a highlift body (yes yes I know wheel wells) and paint it a DEEP DARK blue with Jugg 1 decals.

Got mine in approx. same condition. Like you I plan to change some bearings also, as it's a runner; and being a runner I tried recently a Lexan shell on it, and it's like you win 50% more power, so driving fun increases too! Some 70's styled truck do the the trick I think (& fit the leaf-sprung chassis design), and performance & stability wise, it's worth a try ;)

I got the rest of the rear axle put back together and installed. 

Clod hubs with ball bearing, these will always be easy to find!

RC4WD shocks, I used the factory Tamiya rod ends for the shocks as it alows for using the Tamiya Hardware thats on the truck. These feel fantastic. 

 These look amazing on the truck and provides actual damping, I used Tamiya hard shock oil in them.

Next up the transmision.

Big tires, lots of metal, hard body, these silver cans gotz to go

Tamiya did a fantastic job engineering the beast, these are additional heat sinks to help cool the motors, pretty cool

Spur gear looks fantastic (I was worried as the Jugg was using the standard Tamiya dissolving pinions) , other than that bronze bushing....thatll change

Wow... This Jugg shall be fast

Do you plan to add a cooling fan on the ESC? I would recommend it, as with simple silver cans, a classic ESC (mine is a Teu 106-BK) can already overheat... :)

I hope so!!! I love the RZ!!! In my opinion they are the Technigold/Dynatech of today. I don't have one as of yet. I've got a back up twin motor Hobbywing in the wings in case I let the smoke out.

By the way on my Jugg the TEU-106 didn't deadly overheat, I meant the "thermal protection" was activated quite often without the cooling fan
