Did Towerhobbies just axe coupon codes? 😳

Recommended Posts

I buy most of my Tamiya stuff from Tower but I just checked their site this morning and I can't find the November coupon codes anywhere! They've been getting worse and worse since Horizon bought them but the discount codes were the only thing keeping me coming back. I really hope I'm missing something cause if they're gone for good that makes things significantly more expensive and I'll definitely be looking elsewhere.. ☹

I think their most recent codes expired yesterday. Now they are doing a "tower cash" promotion. Buy $100, get $20 in tower cash. You earn tower cash from now until 12/15 and then you have 2 weeks to spend it before the end of the year. Otherwise, it appears the tower cash expires. So...looks like I'm not ordering anything from Tower.

ALSO: minimum order to get the tower cash is $100... .

I just logged in with my account since I bought a super saver membership earlier this year and I can't see any coupon codes. I looked in the member benefits section of my account and when I clicked on the coupons tab it took me to the same Tower Cash promotion. I'm glad they aren't completly gutting it immediatly, the $10 birthday credit is nice, but it's the end of the line for me if the coupons are gone as they were excellent for Kyosho, Castle, Tekno, and Jconcepts products in addition to Tamiya. Looks like I'll be ordering from overseas from now on for some kits, and just adding lots of extra small stuff to justify the shipping cost

Seems a bit short sighted. In the UK we don’t seem to get as many voucher offers as you do in the states though we have sadly lost one of TC’s sponsors along with their discount codes 😢 Farewell @Fusion-Hobbies

Just me saying bye bye to Tower after many years and taking my business elsewhere. Thanks for nothing Horizon.

Yeah, I noticed this last night (more like early this morning) as I was about to pull the trigger on a new kit and  some bodies and the SuperSavings codes would not call up.  I thought maybe it was because it was 11/1 morning they needed some time to update the promo codes.... but I guess not.

Customer service sucks (perfect example of D&I going too far in the USA), not much of a price benefit any longer, they took my $10 for membership renewal just the other week too..  What a crap of a store.

It's sad. I've been ordering from there since the late 80s. Recently, I went through some boxes after my move and I found a Tower receipt from 1988. Also, I wonder if they read social media. Not only are there complaints here but there's a consistent stream of complaints on reddit. Not sure about the dumpster fire at Twitter though.

May as well buy from AMain then if you're sourcing from a US retailer...

I've had pretty good luck with Amain and LiquidRC when it comes to Tamiya parts. I've never used Tower, but I kinda wish I had given them a shot before Horizon changed how their codes worked.

That was honestly the main reason to order from Tower, so that’s very disappointing. I know everyone likes to talk about Traxxas being bad for the hobby, but I think Horizon might be worse!

Oh that's a bummer.  Have been using Tower for years strictly due to their discount codes on Tamiya/Futaba.  If that's no longer an option I'll be shopping at AMain a lot more.  To be honest I've been wondering why they've kept those generous coupon codes active after the Horizon purchase, I figured they would have gone away a long time ago.

Tower used to be a pretty good company before the Horizon buyout. Another one bites the dust.

Just my thoughts in general, I personally don't think Traxxas or RTR manufacturers are bad for the hobby because they are a powerhouse in bringing new interest to this industry.  If it wasn't for them, Tamiya would probably lost most of their distribution channels in the USA.

RTR has its place and it's really the kit cars that need to keep up with the momentum.. sadly most kids these days have no internet in building RC cars..   We need to remember kit cars are basically piggy backing off RTR sales that is sustaining the industry.. we need companies like Traxxas to 'help' us.

One plays Monopoly, the other plays Search and Destroy, and us Americans are stuck with one or the other anytime that we visit a LHS.

My main gripe with Horizon is them shutting down companies and products (Vaterra), to avoid competition among their brands.

Both of these companies are bad for those of us who want more choice in the hobby.

I get the whole TRX thing and don't typically buy much of their stuff myself, but lately in my area Tamiya has seen a huge resurgence and I love it.  There are 4 decent on road tracks within an hour of me and there is a lot of emphasis on the Tamiya classes and the shops have tons of stock in kits, bodies, parts, paints, etc.   It's really nice to see and I've been supporting them as much as I can.

I emailed Tower to see if this is permanent. Waiting on reply. Discount codes are why I use them and over the past year and many kit purchases, I’ve noticed many delays in shipping. Let’s not even talk about pre orders or the BBX lol. Looks like I’ll be taking my business to AMain. At least the have a little discount with their codes and shipping is super fast. I miss the old Tower.

Oh well, it was fun while it lasted. It's a good thing I got most of the "wants" out of my system this year playing catch up, because I purchased somewhere around 35+/- kits this year, not to mention radio equipment and various support items. I saved a few thousand between Loyalty Points and 20% savings, so I can't really bash them for making a change. If I need to pay full price from now on, it just means I have better purchasing options, and I won't have to deal with the horrible lag on the Tower website. It should be interesting to watch how this plays out over the next year, if they draw us back in with savings.

Yea, they had to be losing a lot of margin on those coupons, they were pretty deep discounts when you spent enough.   I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't come back, and probably not surprised if Horizon just killed of Tower completely at some point.  It's funny, I shop on Tower a lot, but have never shopped with Horizon and probably never will.  If Tower didn't have what I wanted or the discount didn't apply I just bought from AMain.   I feel like the only people that bought from Tower in the past few years only did it for the deals.

I emailed Tower to let them know about my disdain for the new promo. Their reply was as follows:

"Hi sorry you don't like our latest promo. not sure what you don't like about it,
But we have thousands of customers and many are very excited for this.

Have a Great Day sir.

Thank you for contacting Horizon Hobby Customer Service !"

I guess we are all the minority lol

This is a horrible response. The customer service team needs to go back to business school.

Hopefully you are kidding about their response but if that's legit, no way no how will I ever spend one more red cent with either Tower or Horizon.
