Top Force 2017 (47350) back for another run...

Recommended Posts

Bit of an odd one to do another batch of IMHO, given that there are plenty of EVOs still knocking about, but a couple of places are reporting that the regular Top Force is coming back next year.

Tamiya really are unpredictable!

This is surprising! Will I be able to resist buying one since I picked up an original in March, or will I get one to run with reckless abandon to keep the original safe?!?

Happy! Looks like an Egress and a Top Force will be added to my collection next year. The Evo just doen't do it for me... sorry guys.

It would be great if they used the strengthened/reinforced abs plastic like they have in the upcoming hotshot 2.

I get the feeling there won't be a super egress.  td2/4 just don't seem to be all that popular.  If they were you would think there would be decent aftermarket Hop ups, especially redesigned hubs that don't break.  I would really love a rere db01 or db02.  Especially a db02!

Have you broke many TD4 hubs?

Really?  Why is that?   EVO is supposed to be superior, no?

Technically it sure is. But I think mine will mostly be a shelfer.

Yeah, I think it is mainly due to the color. When I see the Top Force box art I think: WOW. The EVO has me just go: meh.

Can't help myself.

Oh okay sounds pretty evil but fine.. I thought my EVO looked pretty dang cool.  I suppose I can get the regular TF and place it next to my EVO for giggles.

I don't have a td2/4.  But comments on the forums here from those who race them say that's a weak point and they are breaking them.  I'm holding back thinking there will be new cars based on these chassis. They might end up as orphins like the db01/02

Have to agree with you. I personally think the Evo looks "toyish". Might be the box art colour and the cheap looking wheels....

I can certainly understand why Tamiya is re-re-re-releasing the Top-Force.  Come on, it’s Tamiya’s 100th RC car.  Apart from the Avante & Egress, there isn’t a body design like it (& I like mine with the overhead air-scoop thank you very much).  And the DF01 chassis spawned the TA01 & TA02 touring cars that started the touring car craze of the 1990s.

Now… I wish I could say the same for the TD02 & TD04.  I think Tamiya will let them die a natural death unfortunately.  But that doesn’t mean I won’t get one of each in the future for the collection for posterity sake.

I think the point is that if you want a DF-01 the TF Evo is the daddy of the line and there are plenty still sat on shelves, so it's likely that anyone who wants one has one already.  You can get the Evo for around £300, the TF in 2024 is going to be £250ish?  I can't see it selling very well at all.

It's similar for the regular Egress also coming next year.  £525 when you can get the Black Edition for £400.

There will be heavy discounts on both of those in mid- to late- 2024 I reckon...

I think the same thing about the Td2/4, they just don't seem popular and there doesn't seem to be any real interest in anyone making a host of hop ups for them

I assume these are quite popular for vintage racing, so Tamiya will keep putting out batches of them.  I might finally buy one (and then wish I'd bought the Evo).

Here in the States the Evo went for about $400 before the price hike and the last standard Top Force re-re went for about $205.

Glad to see this return. I've been kicking the idea of a DF01 project around and the Evo was just too expensive to toy with. I think I also prefer the looks of the standard version. The Evo is an awesome car, but I'm not sure all its parts translate into a significantly better/different car over the standard Top Force unlike the leap the Egress was over the Avante.

Hi-Caps man, Hi-Caps!  Worth the price of entry alone above regular plastic CVAs :D

I know, I know, lol. I thought that after I typed that but still not worth the $200 premium the Evo commands over the TF in the States.

Meh, I saw Tamiya post up the TF on instagram just now..  green with white wheels and are those plastic CVA's?    Looks cheap to me... but I suppose the SuperAstute 2018 in stock form was cheap looking too.   Mine runs CF dual deck with HiCaps and custom color scheme and it is far from cheap looking.

What I should do is get a spare body, paint it in the color scheme of the green TF and place it on my other NIB EVO with proper aluminum wheels for proper display.   Then folks won't have a reason to poke fun at my car (it's built box art which I thought looked pretty cool especially with a driver).. (?)

I foolishly sold my top force a few years ago so I will be getting one…. Yay new top force for me. Already purchased a few goodies like front and rear carbon shock towers, carbon shorty battery holder, alloy steering set and alloy motor mount. Later I may get some different wheels and tires.

Not so sure about that. Full carbon decks, carbon towers, Hi-caps, lightened aluminum diffs, CVA shafts, one way, seems worth the premium to me...I only say this because I made an EVO out of my TF, cost way more than $200.

Oh, I agree its a bargain for all those extra goodies. What I meant was, from a performance standpoint,  do all those extra hop-ups make the buggy perform that much better? Other than the added tunability of the Hicaps and the included bearings (the standard TF comes with bronze bushings IIRC), I imagine a standard TF with a decent driver could dispatch an Evo. This differs somewhat from an Egress which is solidly a better car on the track than the Avante.

True, but if you had that same standard TF driver drive/race both versions, I would venture to say the EVO would be the preferred car.
