Yeah, the teeth definitely look less spaced apart for the Arrma pinion. 32 pitch, the Arrma ones use something called Mod1. At least you have the Maverick 15t pinion to use. Does it also use a 5mm bore, like the Arrma one?

Ah, so the centre diff drive shafts, got ya. I did look in to if the the rears also have CVD shafts. I think it's just the fronts, and the rears only use dog-bones.

Hm, that's a fair amount of upgrades back when this was new. The Turnbuckle Set is up next for me, along with some new 95mm shocks, instead of the 100mm it currently has. Lower the CG a little. Oh, and definitely might get a new alloy chassis plate, since mine is seriously scratched to badword.

I believe the link below is for the original Timberwolf/Desertwolf motor, which has a shaft of 3.2 so 15t pinion gear will be too:

Thanks for sharing what you found about the rear dogbones.  Cool about the turnbuckle upgrade set and lowering the height, always good for increased stability, although mine have rarely rolled, except for high-speed sharpies on grass.

See the chassis plate is still available as shadow stock from wheelspin, glad you didn't say the badword, unless you did and the forum replaced it with badword :D

Ah, standard 3.2mm... not 5mm. The HobbyWing motor I got had a 5mm shaft, so I had to remember to get a 5mm pinion.

Exactly, it'll help a bit with the stability. Not too concerned about ride height, it won't be doing any extreme off-roading or anything. I haven't rolled mine either.. although it's only been once, shortly before the wheel flew off, lol...

Yep, still available, though shadow stock, but can still buy it thankfully. And I think the forum replaced my word with "badword" lol... the word I used rhymes will Bell!

Agreed about ride height, not needed if not doing stunts like those at skate parks etc, which I've never got into and glad due to the potential for damage!  I had an Arrma Kraton V3 6S until recently but didn't even use that for jumps and stunts.

Glad you can still get the chassis plate but might be best not leave it too long, just in case the supplier has trouble getting it.

To be honest, I've never really seen much of a difference with sway bars... I could be wrong, and it could make a huge difference, but it's definitely not something I'd do, simply because I'm not really sure if it makes much of a difference. To me anyway...

Thanks for that, I've formed pretty much the same opinion.  I believe they are supposed to help with stability but find the Timberwolf and Desertwolf pretty stable in stock form.

That said, today I ordered this, just in case I lose the wing.

Pretty much, mine did look stable in the short time I had running it... before the wheel went for a little vacation.

And I had to buy the wing mounts when i got the DesertWolf as it was missing them. Thankfully, it came with the original wing, which is now pretty much non-existent... so definitely try to keep your wing intact and in place at all costs!

Thanks, I will try my best, the bodyshell and wing that came with mine were quite worn but was able to purchase a pre-printed bodyshell including wing but not sure it is available now.  I assume your clear Desertwolf bodyshell also included the wing?

Your shell came with a wing?? I've bought two clear body shells this year alone and not one came with a rear wing... maybe just the pre-painted ones come a wing??

Posted

It was a pre-printed and decaled body shell I got that came with the wing. I also got it because my Desertwolf came without the nose cone and the pre-printed body shell also came with the nose cone.

Hope the wing that came with yours is in ok condition. I did some research and, although I can't remember now, there might be a similar or the same wing that was fitted to another maverick model.

Wow... you got super lucky getting a wing with a body. I can't find the original for sale anywhere, not even eBay... and I have no idea what other 1:8 scale wings might fit.

Thankfully, my wing is pretty much in brand new condition, no scratches, scuffs or damage. If you ever remember, or rediscover, what alternate wing might fit the DesertWolf, do let me know. I'll see if I can find it, and might buy it to keep the original in good condition.

Neither ModelSport nor Wheelspin mention the fact the fact they come with the wing... even HPI's website doesn't mention an included wing. Was the wing you received sealed inside the package with the body? Like, did it look factory sealed, and it wasn't opened prior and the wing placed in there by the seller?

The pre-printed/decaled body shell, wing and nose cone were inside the usual type of clear polythene bag with the tag stapled at the top. They were not individually sealed. The bag had not been previously opened as the staples were untouched.

Could always shoot them an email, especially model sport as in stock there, asking them to check. You'll definitely get a reply from model sport with the info, from my experience, they are the best and even rang me once to chat through an RC issue I was having.

I've just sent Modelsport a message, asking them if the pre-painted shells...or shell, singular... they have in stock also include the rear wing. Just need to wait to see what they say.

I did find a wing for an HPI Vorza, that LOOKS like it might fit... it's not too expensive, I might buy one and see if it fits, see if the screw holes are the right fitment.

I guess it's quite a bit to spend on the pre-printed body shell just to get the wing when you've already got two other clear body shells as well as the original.

I can't remember for sure but that might have been the wing I came up with, the name sounds familiar. Got a link to it?

Cheers for the link for the wing, yes that's the one I came up with, but I never bought one so don't know about fitment.

I've never seen a Desertwolf wing for sale on it's own, must have been discontinued before I started looking into the Desertwolf, wow around £32 was steep, discontinued or not!

Posted

I saw a few DesertWolf wings for sale on their own, I think of Wheelspin.. but it was discontinued so you couldn't buy it or anything, but it was still there.

Now, even when I do a Google search, I can find anything... even if I do an image search, not a single picture of an actual DesertWolf wing! We're sitting on a small, plastic goldmine, lol.

Well and truly unobtainium then, deleted from all stores and not even a picture on the whole of the internet!

I've got my original wing, which is in pretty good shape, bit of decal damage and my new one, so should be ok if I take care.

I'm a bit concerned about damaging the nose cone when bashing so might remove it beforehand!  Only got one cone.
