Looks good, great idea to elongate each hole so not too much on one side.

Would be good see a pic of the whole DW to see how the wing looks in terms of size.

Could you maybe put a spacer either side of the wing mounts to get the holes to line up?

Edit: Never mind - just seen you've made the holes bigger! :)

Lol, yes.. I just wide each hole a little bigger.

And this is a picture of the Vorza wing on the Desertwolf. I tried to get a photo of both wings in order to see the size difference, which isn't a lot to be honest.

I have a bit of a dilemma with the decals. Since  bought a clear shell, I obviously have wing decals well... which I was going to put back on my original wing to make it look the way it's supposed to. If I do that, I won't have any decals for the Vorza wing... decisions decisions.

I can put some random decals on it... but the Desertwolf decals... yeah, I put back on the original wing, since I'm painting it orange and colours on the wing decals are also orange.

As for painting the Vorza wing. I'm not actually sure now. I've got it to fit which his good, but now I'm concerned that by painting it, I'll ruin it. Having said that, now that I know I can get it to fit, I might buy another one at some point and paint that one instead. Only issue is, if it rolls over, it'll scratch off the paint.

Putting the Desertwolf decals on the original wing sounds good, you've got a matching wing again for the original body shell and nose cone.

Good point about scratching the paint on a roll over if sprayed, although I think you can put a protective clear coat on.

Or yes, use some random decals and keep it black.

Just had it delivered, upon unpacking it, it was facing upwards as in the first picture so I thought, oh well, no wing, but then turned it over.

Haha... well... would you look at that! It does actually come with the wing! Colour me surprised for sure.

Now you have two.. or more? If you have more than two, you can replace the battered one with one of the fresh ones maybe... since it came in the sealed bag, I wonder if the other places that said it doesn't come with the wing got it wrong? Maybe they just didn't turn the thing upside down!

But hey.. now we know the truth! It comes with the fabled Desertwolf wing!!

And er.. kinda one-ups my Vorza wing discovery , lol.

I was coloured surprised too as wasn't sure Modelsport had checked the actually item but I guess they did so they're now the best model store for me, based on this and previous positive experiences.

Make it build it was probably my favourite before as they had the most 'in stock' Timberwolf and Desertwolf parts but after their website upgrade they lost, either accidentally or deliberately, everyone's account info and order history, making not only new customers but existing customers need to create a new MIBI account.  They also increased the postage cost from £2.69 to £3.99.

I now have the original wing and body shell (no nose cone), the new wing, body shell and nose cone from MIBI and the new wing, body shell and nose cone from Modelsport, so guess I'm done with Desertwolf body shell parts.  It is possible that other model stores that say the Desertwolf pre-printed body shell doesn't come with the wing haven't checked properly.

How's your decal plans going for the Vorza wing?

For me, it's kinda been Wheelspin for Desertwolf parts. It's where I got all the spare parts.. I got the electronics from Modelsport though. Modelsport are definitely better when it comes to electronics, wheels, tyres... Wheelspin seem to have a very small selection of those types of thing. Except paint... I get a lot of paint there.

Wait... so... 3 body shells, 2 nose cones and 3 wings? Yeah, I guess you might be one with Desertwolf bodies, lol.

Hm.. well, I don't seem to have many decals to put on it. I've put a Modelsport sticker on it, 2 SRT Racing stickers on the end plates.. the brand of servo I bought for the DW... and a HobbyWing sticker. So.. it's a bit naff looking, haha.

Yup, that's right on the Desertwolf body shells etc.  Left is the Modelsport new body shell, wing and nose cone, middle is the fitted MIBI new body shell, wing and nose cone (shelf queen) and right is the original wing and body shell (basher) put inside the bag and tag for now that the MIBI body shell, wing and nose cone came in.

Hope you find some other decals to put on the Vorza wing that you are happier with.

Well, I do have an HPI Bullet shell that has two sets of decals, with plenty of spare HPI decals. Once I've painted the Bullet, I can use the spare decals on the Vorza wing.

And I might may to use some on the original DW wing as well.. I started putting the original decals on the wing. All was going well, until I needed to put on the large Maverick logo decal. It didn't fit. The gaps in the sticker for the vertical fins were completely out of alignment and was impossible to fit. I cut out the Maverick logo, then cut out the orange and gold parts on the sides. Unfortunately, the Maverick logo didn't go so well. Something got caught underneath and created a large bump. I tried removing the decal to remove the bump but ruined the underside of the decal. Now the bump is even bigger, I can't get rid of it looks not nice.

So I either have to use some larger HPI decals from my Bullet, or buy a pre-painted JUST for the wing with it's properly applied stickers.

Sounds good having spare HPI Bullet decals.

Do you mean the large Maverick logo decal didn't fit on the original DW wing?  You said you only had wing decals to put back on the original DW wing and so no DW wing decals for the Vorza wing.

Posted

Yep... the large Maverick logo decal didn't fit properly on the original DW wing. In trying to make it fit, I kind of made it a little worse. So now it looks awful. I'm very OCD when it comes to certain things, and this is making me want another body jut so I can get the wing with the decals already applied and fitting properly!

And no, no Maverick decals for the Vorza wing... will try the HPI decals. Bound to be some that will fit. Hopefully

I haven't bought a clear body shell and so have no experience with the included wing decals but would have assumed Maverick would have made sure they fit the DW wing...

Posted

Well, you'd certainly THINK they'd make their decals fit their wing... but this one didn't. No idea if it was a one off, bad luck, bad batch... but yeah, the decal wouldn't fit within the 6 small vertical fins, they were completely off centre, kind of like the wing mounting holes on the Vorza wing.

Posted

That's not good, sorry you had to deal with that, should not have happened.

I assume, as you bought two clear DW body shells, you had two sets of wing decals, were they both the same?

Posted

The wing decals looked the same.. but not sure if they were the same. Because I was possibly going to use that iridescent body for bashing, I decided to remove the decals from the wing, and put some different ones on, including some Modelsport decals on the sides. What I did do was cut the Maverick logo out and put that on the wing... because I did that, I didn't have any issues with it fitting.

This one, I wanted to put the entire decal on, only to find it didn't fit. So I cut the Maverick logo out again, so that it would fit. which it does... but some dirt or debris got under the decal. Tried to remove it. Made it worse, lol.

So... even though they're currently supplier stock and will have to wait a while... I bought a pre-painted shell from Modelsport just as you did in order to get a wing with properly fitting decals... £39 inc shipping just for the wing. Well, the wing IS rather rare now so, it might be worth it in the long run? If I just keep telling myself that, lol.

I'm very OCD about decals, everything's got to be just right, centred and level, or else I keep noticing!  I try not to care but its hard!

So wrong that Maverick didn't make sure the wing decals, that they included with the clear body shell, fit the original DW wing.

Posted

It's surprisingly hard! Most people probably wouldn't care, but... I guess we're no most people, haha.

Annoying, but given the scarcity of the wing, it's only way to get one. My original body is in good condition, but the odd scuff here and there. I'll use the new body and wing for the shelf and the original shell and wing for bashing. The wing comes off in like 10 seconds with 2 screws, so not much of a faff. The original nose cone will stay, since it's so small the scuffs are barely visible. Blegh... now to wait 3-7 days for them to ship it out... did you by any chance get the last one that was In Stock?

Very wrong. I mean could have been a one off, but still. You'd think their printing process would get it right every time.

Posted

Yes, they're printing processes should have been standard so would think all the decals would be the same.

Yes, I did order the last DW pre-printed body shell in stock from Modelsport.

Think I may have gone a bit overboard with the spares and probably won't need many of them but the Timberwolf and Desertwolf are my favourite RC's, I only have one other, a Tamiya Sand Scorcher.

You only have one Tamiya?? Dude.. get more. They're awesome!

Also... what the eff? So many spares! It's like Christmas has come early! You can still get TimberWolf wheels complete with tyres? Or did you already have those? Can't find the DesertWolf ones anywhere, lucky you still have the originals. The only original part I'd request are the original wheel hexes.

Man, I have to wait for Modelsport to receive my new body before they can send it out.. better come with the wing, or I'll be a little be mad, since that's the reason I bought one.

But. can't hurt to have a butt-load of spare parts, especially for the vehicles you tend to use the most, they're more likely to get broken.
