I think this is sort of my issue with them, also.  There's already so much nostalgic stuff out there, I struggle to see where the market is for stuff that looks vintage but isn't.

Modern racing buggies are UGLY.  The Dirt Master isn't a super detailed body,  but it has some detail and is a lot better than modern mid/laydown buggy bodies.  Some of the others like the Genova have a cab 'bump' in the rear with some 'windows' but seem pretty featureless -no detail on the body.  I prefer the DM look.  These chassis are basically the latest design evolution of the rear motor buggy, with a good looking body.  I think if they designed a non-vintage body that looked good, I might get that instead.  To me, the best chassis design is where I want to start - I don't have any particular love for older designs.  The 'Best' can mean different things - cheap 'best' is different particularly in materials from pro racing 'best', but the overall design/layout should be basically the same.

I think racers, being racers will push forward with whatever is the "latest, newest, fastest" design because their concern is finishing first. That is how we got to where we are with these mid motor,  horrid-looking cab forward nonsense.

Modern truggy bodies look like someone crashed something into a wall and made a lexan body out of it.  It confuses me.  As for the buggies, if I was going to do a cab forward look it would be because I fit a Marui Ninja body onto a 2wd chassis.  I'll bet that'll fit on the DM...

I was sorely tempted by a Dirtmaster but I do have two DT-02s and a TD2, so there's no real 'place' for it and it wouldn't get a lot of use (it's rare enough I get to use what I have got... I'm embarrassed to admit that I still haven't run my TD2 since it got delivered!)

I am in a very similar situation - I have a DT-02 & DT-03 & TD2(that is also barely run) - I can't get myself to get the Dirt Master as well.  If I lost/sold my current collection, I think I would re-start with a DM. And possibly a BBX.  and possibly a... Oh dear...

Isn't the DirtMaster just an RB5 re-re with somewhat cheaper bits and a retro-look shell? The Rb5 was itself was a B4 clone. It's like Tamiya re-reing the zahak.

I think virtually all of the 2wd rear motor racing buggy chassis from 10-15 years ago were effectively clones, with tiny differences between them.  I love that the DM is a 'cheap' version though.  All of the suspension design, steering design, layout, gearbox design shouldn't really change from the pro models as they reduce cost to the midrange.  The materials change, the adjustable bits just get molded in a good compromise positions, but it should be basically the same.  Upgrades are all around for each little spot that a user wants to upgrade if they so desire, but the basic cheap part isn't really bad.

I love these new ones, would like a dm, not so much a genova, jj replica yes, optima mid worlds replica is gorgeous, but im so happy i have the best of the rear motor era as an original: a used b4 ft with multiple bodies and loooads of spares :) . And the best is, mine took part in the worlds 2009 a final (not driven by me though) :) i think if i didnt have this, i'd get a dm and the proline crowd pleazer body (as with the 2 lower liveries), hoping it fits or making it fit.

Yeas, they are all Associated B4 clones, which itself was an iteration of the Losi XX/X.

I don't know why we'd get excited now about the DirtMaster now, maybe it's nostalgia?  Tamiya had the same concept out nearly ten years ago in the Zahaak (a cheap ~£150? version of the 201, itself a b4 clone). At £200 the DM doesn't look that cheap to me, but at least you can buy one I guess.
