Hi,

Two questions:

1. Will XT30 connector be fine for NiMh + Super Stock motor?

2. Is XT30 much smaller than XT60?

I am almost 100% sure, that it is more than enough for setup from first point. Just want to confirm.

Second question is more important. Today I found that XT60 does not fit into hole in XV-01 body, so I just cannot use it. It is about 1 mm or 2 mm too tall.

Agree with @Alex97  XT30s are very small/compact. As it happens, XT30 specs are higher than Tamiya Molex connectors, so you could in theory run them anywhere you'd have a run the old tamiya connector. If you were extremely constrained on space, you could try Deans (not my preferred connector but they work well and are very small, while still being a proper 10th scale connector).

XT60 connectors will not fit through the little opening on the XV-01 (I have that chassis too). Two solutions: 1) dremel/cut/trim out 1-2mm of additional space. I've done this and it works fine. You only need to remove a tiny amount of material. 2) use a battery (like many standard 2s batteries) that has bullet connectors on the battery side (https://www.amazon.com/Powerhobby-8000mAh-Battery-Bullet-Connectors/dp/B07GC8Q2NL) and then you can attach/detach the connector easily from the battery. Then the XT60 connector doesn't have to pass through the opening in the chassis.

The OP is using NiMh packs so he's kind of stuck having to use XT60/Deans/Tamiya separate connectors.

Edit: one could actually just use 3.5mm bullet connectors - as long as they are properly identified and/or the lengths are set such that you can't reverse polarities.

I agree with others, even if the rated current says you could do XT30's I would never do that.

If you are annoyed about enlarging the hole then perhaps you could solder the XT60 inside the battery compartment (ESC side) and keep the entire male/female connector inside the battery compartment.

If you were very stuck on space you could just run bullet connectors, 3.5 or 4mm. Just make sure you don't reverse the polarity or you'll get the magic smoke.

Thank you for replies!

It seems that T-Dean connectors are the best choice.

Modifying chassis is not an option in my case.

Bullet connectors seem to be interesting, but I really want to have safe solution.

I have plan to learn soldering, so I will just buy different connectors and check which are easy to solder and fit chassis.

As I wrote above... If you use 3.5mm bullets it's easy to give the two + and - wires very different lengths such that the ESC + (for example) cannot even reach the battery's - wire.

Remember that the majority of RC hobbyists are using lipo square packs every day, that use 4mm or 5mm bullets and have no problems reversing polarities (for the most part I guess... I'm sure it happens to some people). So your would actually be doing something very common if you used bullet connectors.

Deans connectors are very sturdy and reliable but they require a very large force to disconnect. I use them on helicopters. I used to glue coarse sand paper to the short one (male side) to help my fingers grip it. It gets old after a while.

Whichever way you go it's customary to have the female connectors on the battery side to avoid accidental shorting (and a fire...) when the battery is not installed in the car. Think of a male Dean connector touching your 2mm hex wrench in your gear bag for instance... Fire 🔥!

Believe it or not, I actually find Dean's too loose, they come apart during hard rally driving. I moved onto XTs after that since most chargers comes with XT ports so it makes things a little easier.

That's strange, the genuine T connector from Dean's are very tight in my experience. That's an item that got massively counterfeit or simply copied, and the knock off ones would be as you would expect... even tighter or way too loose.

The naming of the xt30 and xt60 basically cover them.   the xt30 is rated for 30amps, the xt60 is rated for 60 amps.

Deans connectors are also good to 30 amps.

The tamiya white connectors are rated for 10 amps.

The eflite ec3 are 25 amps, the ec5 are 50 amps   i have not used any of the traxxis or new spektrum equipment, so i do not know what they are rated for.

Over the last decade the world has been flooded by fake deans connectors, which is why they seem to have problems with quality control now.

I assumed that if Tamiya connector is fine, XT30 will also be fine for brushed and NiMh.

Mine are tight, hard to pull apart as you described, impossible when fingers are cold and wet. Some are "real" Dean's, some are knock off with ribs. Somehow they still come apart when driven hard*. XTs are tight too, but they are easier to pull apart with cold and wet fingers.

*obviously not helped by the way how some Tamiya chassis has the connectors sticking way out the side.

I usually find cartwheeling upside down along the road at around 40mph+ disconnects the battery connector without fail, unfortunately the lipo tends to disconnect itself from the car and decides to race the sliding car down the street copying it's barrel rolls and cartwheels perfectly.

This has the added benefit of time efficiency and free cardio exercises as you are now running down the road, in an effort to retrieve the car before the lipo skids to a halt and bursts into an unstoppable fire from badword, unaffected by water or your average fire extinguisher. The only way to extinguish a lipo fire is to burn a ring around it so it's got no food, people have also used Nokia 3310's which also work as a fire guard. See the Springfield tyre fire in the Simpsons?. It will become a lipo fire where all the dead lipos go to die some more.

Ah, I see you're still using Ni-mh batteries?, what are you doing?, this is 2023, we use Lipo nowadays.  Deans connectors are great, just buy genuine ones if you can and improve your grip strength by strangling your children when they misbehave.😄😃😁

I am sorry, not this BS again. FYI, lipo are not available where I am. I cannot get any mail ordered to my location. Here is what happen when I select a random lipo on Amazon.

To buy lipo, I need to take a 3 day round trip, including a ferry journey, to a "L"HS. Yeah, I know it is 2023, but I do not have the power to make ICAO change the law to allow lipo to be posted. In fact, the law that banned lipo in post came into effect in 2015! Perhaps you need to keep up to date about laws, especially laws that came into effect over 5 years ago.

Oh, by the way, are these lipo enough for you?

That is not fun :(

Well in my case I currently own a grand total of 2 batteries (for 1/10 surface vehicles at least). A long 2S pack (6600mah) that will get disposed off next year when it hit the 5year mark (which is another subject that does not need to be discussed) and a shorty 4600mah pack. I only own 1 vintage vehicle that would benefit from a round pack but it is being modified to use the shorty pack as well. By next year, the entire 1:10 fleet will use that same shorty pack. Since I can't drive more than 1 car at the same time :D and since running times largely exceed 1h for all cars even when using that shorty pack, this is enough for me. When my kids are old enough to race (and beat) me I will have to buy more batteries!

Did you get upset because I quoted you?. No need to use veiled insults.  Not this BS from you again getting stressed out over a joke on the internet??
