Things that annoy you the most...

Recommended Posts

Pre assembled stuff like shocks and gear boxes. No I want to build it and I have to take it apart anyways to put in bearings. I bought a kit, I'm a hobbyist I assemble these like a fine watch....  I'll build it thanks.

If I wanted stuff already built I'd go RTR.

I measure each shock length when all assembled, starting with measuring each shock shaft to see if all four are consistent.

I guess one more would be painting but I e been training myself with an air rush and it is so much more fun.

Other than that I'm golden

For me it's the plus one mentality of the modern world mixed with the "oh my goodness I can finally buy the car I couldn't when I was a kid". Back in the 80's I had RC car. That was it, just one car. It was a Kyosho Icarus and I ran it until it didn't run anymore then I looked into it's replacement. I never had to chose which car I would run that day because I only had one. I just charged the battery and ran the car until I had to put it back on the charger.

Now it seems I spend more time researching the "new addition to my fleet" instead of enjoying the car I have. In many ways the thrill and joy of RC has taken a backseat to concept of always adding, always searching. I really don't like.

Ok here it goes: YouTube channels, or what I say: Selltube.

Many YouTube channels of people reviewing/building RC kits and working with major or minor RC vendors to sell kits.

When the Squash Van came out a couple days ago I searched all the popular RC channels and yepp, they all got their squash vans for free, early to do the reviews and sell sell sell.I  literally watched the squash van sell out in one day on the online store I buy from, it's currently up for back order.

When people see these on those channels they go and buy it immediately and the rest of us that need to wait a little bit, can't get one, because these YouTubers sell them all right out from under us.

And a lot of these RC reviewers make a good living doing it. That's even more annoying, lol

P.S. I don't want a squash van ..I was just using it as an example.

That's why I'm currently downsizing my fleet, I want to return to having only a few RCs, each having its own specific purpose.

I don't get the whole hoarding mentality that I see so often in the hobby. How do people still have money for dinner or clothes?

This happens in other fields quite a bit, give out macguffins to youtubers who beg for "free content", youtubers hype it up, the hyped up "herd" buys the macguffin.

I'm not a fan either, but at least it's a very easy fix.

I've come to two realizations reading over this thread.

First, things were brought up that I did think to myself "Oh yeah, that annoys me too." So, I guess negativity is contagious. That's not a dig at this thread or its content. Airing grievances can be cathartic, which is a good thing.

Second, the things brought up that did annoy me weren't really about the cars themselves but rather the way things are now. Pre-orders, FOMO, Youtubers hawking product and shilling for companies, people showing off, utter materialism and worship of those with lots of "stuff" etc. etc. may annoy the heck out of me, but really doesn't deal with the actual enjoyment of the hobby.

I am also disappointed with the ever growing crybaby pansies working in positions they are not qualified for.  USA took D&I way too far.. it's comical.  Even today, Amazon delivery was an hour late from their promised 4 hr delivery window (which I paid extra for) and the content was completely damaged.  I am assuming by wimps who can't handle life and took it out on customer's items.  Amazon is going to send me replacement without returning the damaged ones which took me 15min+ to chat with customer service.  And they are refunding me the extra money I paid for early delivery.

You know all this nonsense only pushes me harder to get better at what I do to showcase what integrity and discipline is.. and get more toys and happiness at the end.    It's my way to double birdie losers.

Stickers on motors - Torque Tuned , Sport Tuned etc seem to always end up upside down or hidden when mounted in most common RC's . A loose sticker should be supplied to apply yourself

Well said. Had lots of issues with amazon as an example. I never pay a dime for amazon prime. If i need some quick cheap item, i use without prime (though they give me free 30 day prime trial at least 2-3 times a year which i will use).

For D&I…. Well…. Yeah…

Number one, by a long shot - PRE-ORDER Kits!!  I'm still bitter about PRE-ORDERING and pre paying for the Blockhead Wild One!!! It was money I couldn't afford.... and like what has been mentioned, the "cool kids" on YouTube got theirs first - for FREE!!!  But I was passed over in the first run, the second and third runs too. I ended up getting my money back from Horizon, and won't take one for free now!

(But would take a free Wild One red. Still never had one, even though I've been in the hobby since 1982!)

SECOND thing - PLASTIC BUSHINGS!!! C'mon Tamiya! Really?

THIRD thing - Ball Diffs. I realize I'm a minority here, but I'll always prefer sealed, oil tuned gear diffs.

cold winter weather that causes my "submarine testing facility" to freeze over.

cold winter weather that causes all the local ponds to freeze over, so i can't run my boats and subs.

cold winter weather that causes my "paint booth" to be way too cold to properly apply paint.

cold winter weather that covers the driveway and street and parking lots with snow, so i can't run my trucks and cars.

People that bash a Tamiya and complain that it breaks in half after the first 30 foot jump at a skate park, then call it junk.

Tamiya are not bashers, they are cool cars that are meant to be driven kinda scale like and just some fun at the beach.

TBH the whole bashing trend annoys me.

Not having a garage, or basement... 😭😭😭

I feel this. We’ve not even got a spare room so I’m regulated to the kitchen table.

I just remembered...and had one of the most annoying RC-related things happen to me today.

When you're working on one and drop some screw/spacer/bit that's very critical and hard to replace, and you can't find it!

That's why I have a container full of spare screws and various plastic spacers.

Except that the one critical piece that you drop and lose is so rare that there never is a spare one to be found.

The thing that frustrates me the most is the lack of time I’ve had recently to build anything.

When it comes to building.. tapping all the screw holes in cf plastic chassis tubs and parts.. Worth it beyond a doubt, but it makes my delicate soft hands sore.
