This is my half done BFX that has been sitting around waiting to be finished. I have a BZ stock to go in it and oil shocks/bearings. That's all I'm going to do it and I'm going to run it....quite hard, but not bashing hard.

My question is Those taller uprights to fit longer shocks, is it worth it?

I've been looking at the suspension and it's not like this truck has mega travel anyways. Not going to jump it 10 feet in the air either.  I have a nice set of oil shocks for it that are direct replacements to the friction shocks.

I'm thinking that the shorter shocks will be fine. If it bottoms I can always stiffen the springs/oil.

But the longer shocks do look better tho

Experiences?

One of my favourite runners in years gone by.

We ran ours very hard and a lot, for many years, beaches, car parks, ramps, golf courses - the lot.

Box standard with rarely any issues or repairs needed and with little or no maintenance, not quite bomb proof but close in our experience.

Yes it looks like too much fun to not run it. I'm so done with collecting queens, so I decided I'm doing with it what it's meant to do....have fun. Doesn't mean I will best it to death, but I will have fun with it.

I'm going to go with a construction truck look...kinda like a tonka truck toy scheme complete with an led light bar on top.

I ran mine a lot, many many years ago, before I converted it to 4wd.  A really good fun runner, exactly what a Tamiya should be.

You don't *need* the taller towers but they do make a difference, the shock length and also angle is a compromise on the stock truck, so the damping is never quite right.  Also, IIRC the standard shocks won't allow the chassis to hit the floor, but the taller towers will.  That might be a bad thing on a full-size vehicle, but on an RC truck it will transfer and hard landings into the tough part of the chassis, rather than up through the shocks, towers, and arms.  That said, I never broke my standard towers or arms when I was running mine with the standard shocks.

I can see putting on the towers and big shocks would make it tougher I guess. I do have some shorty shocks to put on and don't plan to really bash this truck so I don't think I'll ever break it...perhaps not even run it.

I do have my paint scheme figured out, modeled after a toy tonka truck. Since it already has the gross yellow wheels, why not. I think it would really cool looking on this truck.

My inspiration picture .

Here is a really old pic of mine. I added some larger shock towers with 4" Traxxas shocks. I'll have to take a new pic because since then, I've added chrome wheels and replaced the body with the 50s ProLine Chevy body.

3760 - Traxxas black shocks

1450 - XTreme r/c racing Tamiya Wld Dagger carbon fiber 4" shock mount (I don't think this company exists anymore.)

I've decided on the color scheme and motor. It will be painted up like a child's Tonka Truck, and run a 23 turn super stock BZ. Should fly pretty good on that and make kids jaws drop when they see this "Tonka toy" going 40MPH across the grass at the park, lol 😅

I even got an orange flashing light bar to put on it...that actually works.

This will be my first paint with an airbrush I'm learning to use.

I found those shock towers on ebay...I just bought a set. Carbon fiber.

I was going to keep it kinda stock, but I'm  inspired now to make it a beast lol
