Looking for advice for my next kit

Recommended Posts

Its been almost 2 years since my last build and looking for the next build.

So i'm reaching out to my fellow members for my next build.

Buggy wise i think i have all the models that i ever wanted. (or maybe not :D)

Hotshot,Grasshopper,Hornet,Frog and Durga

Im leaning towards a big tire model.

i have a LunchBox and really like it but the 2wd is limiting.

Had a MST CFX and gave it to my daughter.

I thougth i was a crawler guy but i'm more of a  go anywhere deep mud, snow guy.

Tamiya Squah Van: It ticks almost all the point but theres something about the looks that doesnt sit rigth.(body vs tire size vs small shocks)

Land crusier GF01: Im leaning towards this model, but is it atleast as capable as my LB?(i really like the looks with bigger tires, and drivetrain design)

ClodBuster: The Clod ticks all the points.

At the moment its the Clod vs GF01, i now there two totally different beasts, so thats why i'm reaching out for advice!  :D

Living in Quebec winter is like 6 month long so i would really like a kit that could handle deep snow.

I thougth maybe the ligHTness of the GF01 combined with very large tires could be an option.

Tires that i would use the GF01.(but dont know if they will fit)

Thanks in advance for for your help

The Clod is the king of snow. And it's one of those models that every Tamiya fan should experience at least once. Start stock, so you'll appreciate the improvements you will certainly end up making. But even stock, it's a beast in the snow.

When it comes to deep snow nothing of the Tamiya line-up beats the Clod Buster. Additionally it's just fun to drive due to its impressive size. Unfortunately I sold mine as I thought a smaller MT like the Wild Dagger would be sufficient for me. Don't get me wrong the Wild Dagger is a lot of fun and with the bigger tires on it you have linked its looks great and perform well. But it is far from the snow performance of an Clod Buster. And it is a lot of fun to tinker with the Clod Buster chassis.

I haven’t tried mine in the snow yet but I too would recommend considering a G601. Little smaller than a clod but 6wd and can do 4ws if you want, and if you really feel like spending money you can put tracks on it :), which are supposed to be good in snow (I’ll find out as soon as it starts snowing). Easily my favorite rc to run, always puts a smile on face.

However if a G601 of some sort isn’t to your liking, I’m with everyone else and say go Clod. Big, fun, and probably the best parts support and aftermarket support of any rc.

I tried the G601 in the snow last year and it did okay, but the lack of ground clearance hurt it. It tended to dig in rather than float over. Also, since all the electronics sit on top of the chassis, you need to find a waterproofing solution. The Clod's tub naturally keeps the worst of the crud away from the works.

Thank you for all the feedback given so far.

I think you're validating what i am slowy starting to accept...the Clod Buster!

The GF06 is interesting but and its not enough to justify a purchase.

I have been fighting the urge of picking up a GF01FT, the Land Cruiser with the tracks. It's goofy looking but in a fun way. Seems like a lot of fun but it's on the expensive side for a "toy". Still, it's calling my name.

Clod gets my vote. You’re fleet are predominantly vintage, the Clod is legend. I’ve had a lot of fun with my Heavy Dump Truck but I got my Clod 1st.

I know the Clod is not rock crawler, but can it go up some moderate uphill without flipping back?
