What spares?

Recommended Posts

Hi all, simple question, what spares do you take to race meetings?

I am starting racing next year and was thinking about what spares should I take so thought I would ask you guys and gals what you take

I haven't raced for a year or so, but used to just take common parts that break. Suspension arms, shock towers hubs and knuckles etc.

What car are you racing?

Having said that, I raced an RC10B6.3 a year or so ago, and most people had a "dry car", a spare "dry car, a "wet car" and a spare "wet car"....

I usually take enough to fix any corner - so arms, hub etc., along with a selection of turnbuckles of correct lengths to replace any on the car and an assortment of misc screws, nuts etc.

If your racing in a one make serise, there'll be plenty of spares kicking about, in other seasoned racers pit boxes. Everyone knows what it's like starting out, so likely to lend/sell/give you the parts needed to get back on the track.

Maybe take spare arms and hubs though.

I don't race myself, but this is what I've gathered from reading too much.

You'll definitely want spare front hubs and diff cases, the part number is TAM5127. Diff cases can crack over time, hubs break from hitting walls hard enough.

The standard suspension arms are rubbery, so they're very unlikely to break. On the downside they can bend and throw one of the front dogbones. Either buy a spare set of metal dogbones or get a set of universals.

Also, get some spare red and tacky grease (its similar to Tamiya grease but in a bigger can), it helps to re-grease the suspension arms here and there where they pivot in the plastic.

Finally, a tub of silly putty or just some moist chewing gum. They're useful for creating a nice LSD effect in open diffs.
