NimH first charge + extra question

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Two questions to NimH 4000 battery I bought:

1. Should I charge it first time with 1C or other rate?

2. Battery is bent, mainly on one side. Is this only visual issue or I should return it to shop?

1C charging is fine, it's what I do, but I think I'd take that back and get a straight one!

In some cars the batteries can be a tight fit and the bend will mean it might struggle to fit properly?

I think it is totally fine, but I will check.

If yes, is it safe to use it?

If that was my battery, I would return it and get another one that is perfectly straight as it should be.

Definitely plus one on that... Not just the small risk that a solder will fail but just for the general quality issue I would return it. Didn't you say the shop was 5min from home? ;)

Edit: I think LRP should change their slogan to "Blue is better, not straighter"

I forgot to add update.

I returned battery and in meantime, I ordered the same but 3000 version from different shop. It is straight. What I found, that rear plastic cap is bit on angle, but I do not want waste time on such things.

Now I am waiting for information from first shop.

If you happen to have an electronic scale, would you be able to weight that 3000mah battery by any chance? Thank you!

@Pylon80 322g.

HPI Plazma 3300 356g.

New slogan suggestion: "Blue is lighter, not straighter".

Thanks man.

Interesting that there would be differences. I would have thought that a Sub C cell was a Sub C cell, more or less the same size and containing more or less the same stuff and therefore all weighting more or less the same, but that is not the case. I think the 5000mah cells are even heavier which now seems logical.

Yep: more capacity = larger cells = heavier battery  :)

I bought new battery, but it seems that weather will not let me to run this year too much. Packs which I already have are enough for few rides.

In that case, should I leave it and charge for the first time in a few months or just charge it now and recharge every month as others, even if not used?
