Hi all, been away from the RC world for too long, started many moons ago with a Super Champ, then Boomerang, Clod Buster, I could go on, did swerve to the dark side occasionally with a ProCat and other well known models.

Recently received an Egress Black Edition as a gift for a “Shelf Queen” project, whilst that was the idea, the young version of me wants to still set it up so it can be used, just in case, given that I’ve been away so long, my knowledge is no longer what it used to be, when you were young and absorbed everything like a sponge.

I have gone for the recommended motor option of the 53779 GT motor, albeit, I would have been tempted with a brushless option, but given my lack of knowledge these days, played it safe.

I am looking for help with options for a suitable ESC and RC gear options, I am a little older, so prefer a stick option, rather than wheel, still have fond memories of my Futuba Attack-R from the past, never let me down 🤔🙂

Any help or guidance would be very much appreciated, would prefer to be as “stock” as possible, although, I will not be painting the Egress black, as suggested 🥴

ESC, I'd go for the Hobbywing 1060 or the new Tamiya version the THW-1060-RTR.

For sticks, you have a couple of cheap options: Carson Reflex, Absima SR2S and maybe the odd other not so well known brands.

Or you can go for a Futaba T4GRS (mid-price) or Sanwa EXZES ZZ (high end).

I'm old too. The way I figured it, I'd been away from RC long enough that it was worth a try to ignore old preferences and assume old muscle memory to have faded, since there are so very few stick radios on the market nowadays, so I've gone straight to wheel without touching a stick radio. I'd maybe not have if racing but I'm just doing casual running. Anyway this way I have the whole market to go at and can probably benefit from a better price/quality point.
