Hi all, been away from the RC world for too long, started many moons ago with a Super Champ, then Boomerang, Clod Buster, I could go on, did swerve to the dark side occasionally with a ProCat and other well known models.

Recently received an Egress Black Edition as a gift for a “Shelf Queen” project, whilst that was the idea, the young version of me wants to still set it up so it can be used, just in case, given that I’ve been away so long, my knowledge is no longer what it used to be, when you were young and absorbed everything like a sponge.

I have gone for the recommended motor option of the 53779 GT motor, albeit, I would have been tempted with a brushless option, but given my lack of knowledge these days, played it safe.

I am looking for help with options for a suitable ESC and RC gear options, I am a little older, so prefer a stick option, rather than wheel, still have fond memories of my Futuba Attack-R from the past, never let me down 🤔🙂

Any help or guidance would be very much appreciated, would prefer to be as “stock” as possible, although, I will not be painting the Egress black, as suggested 🥴

Congrats on the car.  For your brushed motor, a good standard is the HobbyWing 1060.  I use it on almost all of my newer cars with brushed motors.  Amazon sells them too.

Not sure about the stick controller..  I will let someone else answer that one.

GL with your project @Scott398!  B)

You would be hard pressed to find a new dual stick. For modern spread spectrum you probably would have to go to a 4 channel aircraft setup since no one makes 2 channel stick anymore.  If FM is good enough I recommend doing Ebay or Mercari.

There are plenty  of unused and hardly used Futaba 2 stick out there. Most people don't want them.

That said, consider trying a pistol grip.

It is inuitive and you will not want to go back. I have been into rc for almost 40 years. I have had 2 sticks. I moved on.

The only 2 stick I still use is the one that came with my Nikko Dictator.

Besides nostalga, it is a great radio with overpowered RF so even with AM I never lost range.

I'm no expert but on stick vs wheel it seems to me that while there are a few folk who have been racing all the way through who have stuck with sticks, they struggle to find good gear, because it's just all wheel nowadays. When I got back into it, I found a lack of options (and asked here) and therefore just went straight to wheel, even though back in the day I only had sticks. It didn't seem to be a problem. I wasn't ever racing though, so perhaps didn't retain the muscle memory of others.

For reasons unknown there seems to be a lot of transmitter chat about this last few weeks. For me I've been researching options in the mid range, after 2 years on basic gear. That's wheel stuff but sticks did come into the conversation (and again, unfortunately, the lack of options). I've ended up ordering a Noble NB4, although I haven't got it yet.

As I posted in your other thread on this topic, the Futaba T4GRS and Sanwa EXZES ZZ are mid- and high- spec car-spec stick transmitters you can look at.  On the cheap end of things, Carson and Absima both make stick systems.

I currently use Carson but after all the chit-chat over the last few weeks I'm looking at getting a Futaba T4GRS for my higher end cars.

Thanks to everyone for their input, seems like the best option is to ditch the nostalgia and try something new 😂 I really do appreciate the help, I will look into all options that have been recommended and make a calculated decision.
